No show both starts for JakeThomas Coulson this season and has rejoined Dan Skelton, for whom he showed ability in maiden hurdles at 2m/19f last term. Tongue strap applied and each-way chance.

Beaten a long way on debut in a bumper at Catterick and hasn't fared much better in a couple of novice hurdles since.

Just minor promise in a couple of bumpers and beaten a long way on recent hurdles debut at Market Rasen.

Set to score comfortably on hurdles bow when falling at the last at Catterick. Not so good 2 starts since, but big chance if wind op/fitting of a tongue strap have the desired effect.

€52,000 3-y-o, £8,000 4-y-o. Dam, bumper winner, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 3¼m) Urtheoneiwant. Has undergone wind surgery ahead of this debut and market can guide.

Fair but untrustworth Flat winner. No impact on hurdles debut at Wetherby earlier this month and subsequently failed to fire back on the level.

Will need to leave bumper form a long, long way behind if he's to make an impact now switched to hurdles.

Dual winner on the Flat (both on AW) and showed much more than on his hurdles debut when fourth of 11 at Wetherby. Well held back on the level since, but he's not without each-way hope here.

Half-sister to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler Steel City and bumper winner/fair hurdler Miss Sassypants, stays 2½m. Probably best watched on debut, unless the betting suggests otherwise.

Point winner at seventh attempt, but offered little when pulled up on belated Rules debut at Wetherby last month. Now tried in a tongue strap.

Forecasts

Cook The Books (11/8), Malpas (2/1), Cooper's Cross (2/1), Monarca (6/1), Spantik (13/2), Annies Prayer (12/1), Fernhill Dane (28/1), Miss Smartypants (28/1), My Boy Lewis (50/1), Toni's Oscar (66/1), Leopolds Rock (80/1), That Ships Sailed (150/1)

Verdict

MALPAS was held in second when tipping up at the final flight over C&D last time, but the winner of that novice looks well-above average. Donald McCain's charge has since undergone wind surgery and, if that procedure and the addition of a tongue strap work as intended, he will take plenty of stopping. Cooper's Cross is next on the list ahead of Cook The Books and Spantik.
