Back on the up when landing a 6-runner mares' handicap chase at Catterick last month. However, subsequent effort off this revised mark at Kelso left much to be desired and blinkers refitted here.

Off the mark at third attempt over fences at Ludlow in November and runner-up at Newbury next time, despite going in snatches. Since undergone a wind operation and he has to enter calculations.

Pulled up both starts since returning from a lengthy absence, but has dipped to an attractive mark as a consequence and has undergone a wind op ahead of this debut for new yard. Cheekpieces added.

Low-mileage 8-y-o who landed a Chepstow novice last season. Excellent third at Cheltenham on reappearance, but it's been all downhill since.

Improved performer sent chasing last season, winning 3 of his 4 starts during that campaign. It's been a different story this time round, though, and others make greater appeal.

Signed off last season on a winning note and added to his tally at Huntingdon in December. Lost no caste in defeat when runner-up over this C&D last time and he's a must for the shortlist.

Revitalised for Tom Symonds this term, scoring twice over hurdles and over fences. Well clear of the rest when going close on debut for new yard at Carlisle last month, but he's gone up 6 lb for that.

Struck for the second time over fences in Wincanton novices' handicap chase in January. Not disgraced when third of 10 over 2½m here next time and going back up in trip is no bad thing.

Forecasts

Debece (2/1), Mister Murchan (9/2), Eclair De Guye (5/1), Versatility (11/2), Boughtbeforelunch (13/2), Fortescue (8/1), Innisfree Lad (10/1), Lamanver Pippin (16/1), Cobra De Mai (16/1), Quick Wave (33/1)

Verdict

DEBECE has a point to prove following two inauspicious performances since returning from a 19-month spell on the sidelines. On the upside, the handicapper has relented and this 10-y-o is of strong interest starting out for Dan Skelton here, having undergone wind surgery and now tried in cheekpieces. Eclair de Guye and Boughtbeforelunch, both second over this C&D last time, are live dangers.
