Bumper/hurdles winner who made it third time lucky in this sphere at Musselburgh last January. Got no further than the second fence there last time, though, and others look stronger.

Useful chaser at best for Paul Nicholls, but well held both completed starts for new yard this season and hopes pinned on combination of cheekpieces/tongue strap sparking a revival.

Made a successful start over fences in 2m Newcastle novice last season. Stepped up on low-key reappearance when fourth of 13 at Aintree (2½m, heavy) in December and he needs taking seriously.

Good strike rate over hurdles and successful on chase debut at Newcastle in December 2018. First run since when falling 5 out at Haydock (15.7f, heavy) last month and a bold show is anticipated.

Off the mark at third attempt over fences when leading from pillar at post at Newcastle (16.3f, soft) in December. Up 7 lb for that, but he'll be a danger to all if again allowed to dominate.

Returned to form from out of the blue to finally take advantage of his plummeting mark here in January. Not so good at Musselburgh next time, though, and he looks vulnerable for win purposes.

Forecasts

Reivers Lad (13/8), Victory Echo (5/2), Dali Mail (9/2), Ardera Cross (6/1), I'm To Blame (12/1), Touch Kick (40/1)

Verdict

REIVERS LAD has evidently had his problems, but he was racing with plenty of zest when departing 5 out back from a lengthy absence at Haydock and, if none the worse for that tumble, the 10-y-o may well be the answer. Victory Echo will be a big threat if allowed plenty of rope, as was the case at Newcastle last time, and Dali Mail also commands respect.

  1. REIVERS LAD
  2. VICTORY ECHO (IRE)
  3. DALI MAIL (FR)
