Failed to make a meaningful impact on Rules debut, but following a wind op he improved when landing a Wincanton maiden hurdle in a first-time tongue strap last month. Further progress likely.

Useful in bumpers, winning 3 of his 4 starts, and is just as good on the Flat, competing in major staying handicaps in 2020. Very much of interest on this hurdles debut.

Well held in bumpers for Ronald O'Neill in Ireland and hard to fancy now hurdling for new yard.

Showed ability on debut in a Perth bumper last summer but well held both starts since, including on hurdles bow at Musselburgh last time.

Pulled up both starts between the flags and readily passed over on Rules debut.

Showed a bit when a well-held third on hurdles debut at Musselburgh in December. However, well held back there next time and yard saddles a far stronger candidate in Alright Sunshine.

Winless following 14 attempts between the flags and, like stablemate Coolkill, he looks set for a struggle on this Rules debut.

Well held on only start in bumpers but showed a bit under a considerate ride on hurdling debut at Ayr in November. Likely to do better in time, perhaps when going down the handicap route.

Too keen in a Musselburgh bumper last year, but was set to score comfortably on hurdling bow when falling at the last at Catterick (19f, heavy) on last month's reappearance. Obvious claims.

Successful on sole outing in points, but efforts under Rules have so far been uninspiring.

Successful in his only Irish point and showed plenty when 11 lengths second of 9 to Henry Gondoff in Wetherby novice (19.7f) on Rules debut. Should improve with that run under his belt.

Well held in a pair of bumpers in the autumn. Hood added for hurdle debut.

Scorpion mare from a good jumping family. Limited impact in a couple of mares' bumpers in Ireland for Gavin Cromwell last summer and best watched now hurdling for new yard.

Forecasts

Rockstar Ronnie (5/4), Alright Sunshine (2/1), Fabrique En France (4/1), Malpas (13/2), Coolkill (40/1), Goodtimes Badtimes (50/1), Let There Be Love (66/1), Ballytobin (100/1), Your Place (125/1), Bayfriars Bobby (150/1), Rapid Raider (150/1), Just Jerry (150/1), Grey Tikkana (300/1)

Verdict

MALPAS had the race well and truly sewn up when departing at the final flight at Catterick and, granted a clear round here, he will prove a tough nut to crack. Rockstar Ronnie made a promising start under Rules in a Wetherby novice and is open to improvement, but multiple bumper winner/useful Flat handicapper Alright Sunshine may emerge as the main danger.

  1. MALPAS (IRE)
  2. ALRIGHT SUNSHINE (IRE)
  3. ROCKSTAR RONNIE (IRE)
