Useful performer on Flat who came good over hurdles at Uttoxeter last month on his second start for this yard. Ought to be competitive under his penalty.

Shaped well in a very hot Kempton bumper last season and did the same on Lingfield hurdle debut in October. Stiff task at Cheltenham next time but can get back on the up here.

€210,000 3-y-o who is a brother to useful hurdler Constantine Bay (19f-3m winner). Very interesting to see how this newcomer goes in the betting.

80/1, well held in 20.5f Leicester novice hurdle on debut 23 days ago. Has a hood added now.

Won twice on Flat in France in 2018, but just poor nowadays, so hard to make a case for him now belatedly switched to hurdling.

Fair form when fifth in a couple of bumpers this autumn. Longer trip bred to be in his favour now hurdling.

Cost £60,000 after winning sole point in March 2019. Betting perhaps the best guide to expectations on Rules debut after a long layoff.

Unplaced completed start in Irish points last year and beaten 15 lengths into fourth in a Bangor bumper in October. Longer trip ought to suit now hurdling but likely best watched all the same.

Well held in a Newcastle bumper for Tim Easterby in March 2019. Fell in sole point in March and out the back in a Warwick maiden hurdle 12 days ago. Big outsider again.

Showed plenty when placed in both bumpers but beaten a long way into sixth on last month's Uttoxeter hurdle debut. Will need to leave that well behind to play a part.

Twice placed in bumpers but sent off at 25/1 when well held on 2m course hurdle debut in October. Will need to improve significantly for the longer trip.

Placed on both starts in 2m maiden hurdles in the spring (including here) and has improved again on the Flat since, winning twice on heavy ground at up to 2m in October. Longer trip now should suit.

Winning Irish pointer at third attempt and made a promising hurdling debut when runner-up to subsequent winner at Wetherby (2½m) 38 days ago. Should improve and win races.

Hasn't achieved enough in a pair of bumpers 11 months apart to suggest he can play a prominent role on hurdle debut.

Forecasts

Paddys Motorbike (11/4), Poldark Cross (11/4), My Whirlwind (11/4), Ballymillsy (4/1), Land Of Winter (4/1), Get Prepared (10/1), Barricane (14/1), Will Sting (18/1), Floy Joy (33/1), Gumbo Flyer (66/1), Getthepot (66/1), Gentle Rose (100/1), Kemble's Cascade (150/1), Glen Mooar (300/1), Begin The Luck (300/1), Calajani (300/1)

Verdict

POLDARK CROSS went down only to a next-time-out winner on Rules debut at Wetherby and gets the nod to go one better but there are plenty of possible threats, headed by Land of Winter who has developed into a useful stayer on the Flat and should have more to offer now racing beyond 2m for the first time over hurdles. Ballymillsy is also on the shortlist.

  1. POLDARK CROSS (IRE)
  2. LAND OF WINTER (FR)
  3. BALLYMILLSY
