Placed in a couple of bumpers last season and successful hurdling bow at Uttoxeter on return. Good second (that's been boosted since) at Cheltenham last time, so should get back to winning ways.

£3,500 3-y-o, Le Fou gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/fair chaser Dark Bolero and fairly useful hurdler/chaser Swansbrook, latter stayed 3m. Dam unraced.

Modest form in bumpers for Martin Keighley and not seen for 19 months, so makes little appeal on hurdling/stable debut.

Third in a point and, 11 months on, showed encouragement when filling the same position in a novice at Lingfield 19 days ago. Needs to improve on that, though.

Goldmark gelding. Half-brother to smart hurdler Fethard Player. Dam, fairly useful winning hurdler, stayed 2¾m. Off mark in Irish points at fourth attempt last time in May 2019.

Bred to need more time and only showed a modicum of ability when plugging on for eighth in a bumper at Newbury. Likely to have a considerate start to hurdling.

Off the mark at the second attempt in maiden points, but pulled up at Lingfield on Rules debut 12 months ago. Has since undergone wind surgery.

Multiple winning pointer but sole Rules outing was a disappointing showing in a hunter at Cheltenham over 2 years ago. Hard to know what he's capable of.

Landed a bumper at the second attempt but jumped awkwardly when fourth in a novice at Warwick on his first go at hurdling and is likely to be outclassed by a few of these rivals.

Forecasts

Midnight River (1/4), Delgany Monarch (8/1), Revels Hill (8/1), Fabrique En France (9/1), Will Sting (11/1), Gold Miner (33/1), Tuff Times (40/1), Welsh's Castle (66/1), Phantomoftheoscar (66/1), Begin The Luck (80/1), Cloud Formation (150/1), Thebudinpundit (250/1)

Verdict

MIDNIGHT RIVER followed an impressive winning start over hurdles with an excellent second to a subsequent Graded winner at Cheltenham in October. He probably won't need to improve on that to get his head back in front, though winning pointers Revels Hill and Gold Miner provide some stern opposition.

  1. MIDNIGHT RIVER
  2. REVELS HILL (IRE)
  3. GOLD MINER
