Low-mileage 5-y-o who resumed with good second in 2m Chepstow handicap only to find less than seemed likely when fourth at Taunton 24 days ago. Cheekpieces reached for now and bit more needed.

Dual winning hurdler who reverts to this code after poor effort over fences at Ascot last month. Still has few miles on the clock so he's not totally dismissed.

Knocking on the door in handicap hurdles through the summer and has another go now with blinkers fitted after two below-par efforts in novice chases. Considered.

Made encouraging return when second in 20f Fakenham handicap only to turn in modest effort at Ascot last time. Still quite unexposed and yard won this contest 12 months ago so worth another chance.

Fairly useful on Flat. Set to make winning hurdling bow at Newton Abbot in August (fell 2 out) but has failed to see out his race both starts since, remote third at Exeter latest. Bit to prove now.

Fair 7f Flat winner who has been placed all three runs over hurdles, good third in 2m Hexham novice last month. First two have won since so not taken lightly now handicapping despite stiffish mark.

Fair winning stayer on Flat and over hurdles. Returns after 9 months off over much shorter trip though so others are more persuasive.

Improving 3-y-o who arrives on a hat-trick after juvenile wins at Ludlow and over C&D, impressive when 10l scorer last time. Fancied to go in again getting the allowance on handicap debut.

Forecasts

Orchestral Rain (2/1), Xcitations (5/1), Sorbet (5/1), Friend Or Foe (15/2), Great Hall (10/1), Dorking Boy (11/1), Flint Hill (12/1), Gateway To Europe (16/1), Sovereign Duke (28/1), Be My Sea (66/1), Linger (150/1)

Verdict

ORCHESTRAL RAIN has thrived since joining Dr Richard Newland and is sure to take some pegging back in his hat-trick bid getting a big 3-y-o allowance. Xcitations has a below-par Ascot run to shrug aside but had looked promising prior to that and represents last year's winning yard so is feared most. Great Hall is more exposed but arrives in good nick so rates a solid place prospect.

  1. ORCHESTRAL RAIN (IRE)
  2. XCITATIONS
  3. GREAT HALL
