Largely consistent staying handicap hurdler who seemed amiss in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham when last seen. No reason why he shouldn't take to fences.

Useful hurdler at his best but below form last term and made inauspicious start to chasing in a novice at Sedgefield on reappearance.

Plenty of promise when in the frame in maiden hurdles in Ireland for Joseph O'Brien. Has switched to Jonjo O'Neill ahead of this chase/handicap debut after 11 months off. Betting should guide.

5/2
Easy point winner who proved himself to be fairly useful over hurdles but strikes as the sort to really come into his own over the larger obstacles this season. One to consider back from 9 months off.

Progressive hurdler last term, facile winner of novice events on final 2 starts. Good fourth of 18 despite mistakes in handicap at Uttoxeter on seasonal/chasing debut, and open to improvement.

Dual hurdles winner who opened chase account at the fourth time of asking at Huntingdon in March. Likely needed the run on first outing since at Uttoxeter 22 days ago, and cheekpieces go on now.

Dual novice hurdle winner in 2018 and, back from a long absence, improved for a switch to chasing when a staying-on fourth (Repetitio second) at Wetherby. Fascinating handicap debutant.

Dual winning hurdler in 2019 and scored on the Flat during the summer. Good second in a novice at Wetherby on first go at chasing and form boosted by the winner subsequently, so not ruled out.

Forecasts

Northofthewall (9/4), Quoi De Neuf (5/2), General Custard (15/2), Canelo (10/1), Repetitio (12/1), Fanfan Du Seuil (12/1), Diamond Fort (16/1), Time To Get Up (18/1), Burrows Park (22/1), Lord Napier (50/1)

Verdict

GENERAL CUSTARD improved on his hurdling exploits despite seeming in need of the experience when fourth in a Wetherby novice on his first go at chasing and doesn't appear to have been overfaced with an opening mark of 122, so he's taken to make a winning handicap debut. Northofthewall also arrives on the back of a promising first start over fences, so he could prove the main danger.

  1. GENERAL CUSTARD
  2. NORTHOFTHEWALL (IRE)
  3. DIAMOND FORT (IRE)
