Came From The Dark¹⁴

Age: 4| Weight: 9-7| J: Tom Marquand| T: E Walker| OR: 100| D

4/1

Arrived late on the scene when landing a 5f Haydock handicap (good) on penultimate start. However, failed to fire at York next time and it could be that he's a shade too high in the weights for now.

Form: 12-0210

Rayong⁷

Age: 3| Weight: 9-2| J: B A Curtis| T: K R Burke| OR: 95| D

10/1

Added to 2-y-o debut success when landing a 5f Pontefract handicap in July. Not in the same form since, though, and likely to find a few too good in this competitive heat.

Form: 0-71806

Ishvara^p¹⁸

Age: 3| Weight: 8-12| J: Oisin Murphy| T: R M H Cowell| OR: 91| D

11/1

Much improved when making a winning reappearance/handicap bow at Haydock in June. Runner-up on 3 of her 6 starts since, including at Leicester (5f, heavy) latest, but this demands a clear career-best.

Form: 092202

(9)

Wrenthorpe¹⁰

Age: 5| Weight: 8-10| J: G Lee| T: B Smart| OR: 89| D

15/2

Good second at Redcar this month and produced a career-best when going one better at Nottingham (5f, good to soft) recently. Now 5 lb higher in a tougher race but needs considering all the same.

Form: 723021

(3)

Orvar¹⁵

Age: 7| Weight: 8-10| J: W Buick| T: P T Midgley| OR: 89| CD

5/1

Back on the scoresheet at Chester in August and almost added to his tally in a competitive Beverley minor event last month. Failed to fire at York last time but couldn't rule out with Buick aboard.

Form: 051920

(1)

Abel Handy¹⁴

Age: 5| Weight: 8-7| J: Shane Gray| T: D O'Meara| OR: 86| D

14/1

Deservedly got his head back in front when making all over 6f at Ripon last month. However, below par in 3 subsequent starts and while dropping back to 5f may help, others make more appeal.

Form: 341667

(10)

Victory Angel¹²

Age: 6| Weight: 8-6| J: Phil Dennis| T: Rebecca Bastiman| OR: 85| C| D

28/1

Dual winner of 5f Musselburgh handicaps in September. Not disgraced despite finishing last of 5 in a minor event there last time (stiff task at the weights) and he's not without hope in an open race.

Form: 871615

(11)

Mighty Spirit¹⁵

Age: 3| Weight: 8-5| J: Megan Nicholls⁽³⁾| T: R A Fahey| OR: 84| D

9/2

Typically not the quickest off the blocks but she's talented and produced her best effort of the season when runner-up in a big-field York handicap (5f, soft) last time. Player off the same mark here.

Form: 507332

(2)

Venturous²¹

Age: 7| Weight: 8-4| J: Ray Dawson⁽⁵⁾| T: T D Barron| OR: 83| C| D

6/1

Out of luck this season but went close when third over 6f at Chester on penultimate start. Excuses on the AW since and, now 4 lb below his last winning mark, he's one for the shortlist.

Form: 006835

(5)

Tanasoq⁴⁵

Age: 7| Weight: 8-2| J: F Norton| T: P T Midgley| OR: 81| DWS

12/1

Generally below par this year and hopes pinned on recent wind operation serving as a catalyst for a revival.

Forecasts

Came From The Dark (4/1), Mighty Spirit (9/2), Orvar (5/1), Venturous (6/1), Wrenthorpe (15/2), Rayong (10/1), Ishvara (11/1), Tanasoq (12/1), Abel Handy (14/1), Dark Shot (25/1), Victory Angel (28/1)

A chance is taken on VENTUROUS, who hasn't enjoyed the rub of the green on several occasions this season and is appealing off a handy mark and with top-apprentice Ray Dawson in the hot-seat. Just as he did in 2019, Wrenthorpe has again peaked in the month of October and he is greatly respected, while Orvar will be a threat if on-song and Mighty Spirit also enters calculations.
