Fair on Flat at up to 7f in Ireland and opened hurdle account in a 15.8f Uttoxeter novice last month, but looks vulnerable under a penalty in a stronger race here.

Archi's Affaire¹⁶

Age: 6| Weight: 10-12| J: Sam Coltherd⁽³⁾| T: W Coltherd| OR: 115| BF

10/3

Fairly useful 12f winner on Flat for Michael Dods. Improved from hurdling bow when 3¼ lengths second of 11 in a C&D novice in July, despite needing stronger gallop. Open to further progress.

Form: 2-2

Be The Difference⁹

Age: 4| Weight: 10-12| J: Thomas Dowson| T: P A Kirby

250/1

Fell both starts in Irish points and little sign of ability in 2 runs over hurdles.

Form: FF-09

Blazer's Mill²⁰³

Age: 6| Weight: 10-12| J: R Johnson| T: O Murphy

8/1

Overcame inexperience to win Fontwell bumper on Rules debut. Failed to meet Expectations on Ayr hurdling bow and folded tamely at Wincanton when last seen so returns with something to prove.

Form: 21/4P-

Percy's Word⁶³⁵

Age: 6| Weight: 10-12| J: Harry Skelton| T: D Skelton| D

15/8

Useful at up to 2m on the Flat for Simon Crisford and showed plenty when second of 16 in introductory event on Newbury hurdling debut 21 months ago. Not seen since but still likely to improve.

Form: 2/

Poppa Poutine²²⁸

Age: 4| Weight: 10-12| J: Sam Twiston-Davies| T: N & W Twiston-Davies

4/1

£100,000 buy after finishing second in an Irish point on debut in February and is a half-brother to fairly useful hurdler Northofthewall (2m-2½m winner, by Mahler). Interesting Rules newcomer.

Form: 2-

Spark Of Madness³²⁰

Age: 4| Weight: 10-12| J: S Mulqueen⁽³⁾| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell

150/1

Bred to need time and distance and shaped in kind in an Aintree bumper on debut 10 months ago.

Form: 0-

Universal Gleam⁷⁷

Age: 5| Weight: 10-12| J: B S Hughes| T: K Dalgleish

10/1

Useful Flat performer (stays 1¼m) who resumed winning ways at Wolverhampton in March. Well below form last 2 outings, but is in good hands so worth a look now switched to obstacles.

Forecasts

Percy's Word (15/8), Archi's Affaire (10/3), Poppa Poutine (4/1), Check My Pulse (5/1), Blazer's Mill (8/1), Universal Gleam (10/1), Dionysis (20/1), Spark Of Madness (150/1), Be The Difference (250/1)

POPPA POUTINE was bought for £100,000 after finishing second in an Irish point in February and Nigel Twiston-Davies' horses rarely lack for fitness at this time of the year, so expectations are likely to be high on this first hurdling start. Percy's Word hasn't been seen for 21 months, but should still improve, while Archi's Affaire has shown enough to suggest he's up to winning a novice.
