Leicester Apprentice Handicap
Class 6 | 7f | Good to Firm (Good in places) | 13 Runners | Turf
Off time: 13:01 | Winning time: 1m 24.93s
Below form sixth of 11 in handicap at this C&D (good to soft, 40/1) 14 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Needs to build on that.
4/1, career best when winning 12-runner handicap at Lingfield (7.6f, good to firm) 14 days ago, comfortably. Can make presence felt.
20/1, fourth of 12 in handicap at Musselburgh (8f, good) 15 days ago, doing too much too soon. Merits consideration from sliding mark having hinted at a return to form.
C&D winner. One win from 23 Flat runs. Winner here in August. Last of 9 in handicap (9/1) at this C&D (good to soft) 14 days ago. Must improve.
C&D winner. Improved on recent efforts to win 13-runner handicap at Lingfield 25 days ago, having benefit of enterprising ride. In good order but bound to find this tougher from 6lb higher.
Winner at Bath in July. 11/2, good second of 12 in handicap at Kempton (6f) 12 days ago. Respected.
Remains a maiden after 21 Flat runs. 11/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, respectable sixth of 11 in handicap at Lingfield (7f, good) 19 days ago. Others more persuasive.
Temperamental sort. Tenth of 12 in handicap (28/1) at Catterick (7f, heavy) 13 days ago.
9/2, respectable fourth of 12 in handicap at Kempton (6f) 12 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Seemingly just ticking over at present.
Creditable fourth of 13 in handicap at Chepstow (6.1f, good to firm, 11/2) 11 days ago, sticking to task. Not discounted.
3-time C&D winner. Tenth of 14 in minor event (5/2) at Yarmouth (7f, good to soft) 27 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Goes well here, so might bounce back.
Ninth of 14 in minor event (11/2) at Yarmouth (7f, good to soft) 27 days ago. Tongue strap on 1st time.
100/1, seventh of 14 in handicap at Chepstow (6.1f, good to firm) 11 days ago. Up against it once more.
Spanish Mane (7/2), Bullington Boy (5/1), Gherkin (13/2), Champagne Bob (15/2), Langholm (15/2), Velvet Vista (8/1), Bold Decision (17/2), Eastern Star (11/1), Dreamboat Annie (12/1), Peachey Carnehan (16/1), Bbob Alula (25/1), Grandstand (25/1), Chaplin Bay (33/1), Gonzaga (66/1)
LANGHOLM did too much too soon at Musselburgh 15 days ago but stuck on well in the circumstances, so he could capitalise on a good mark under a slightly more efficient ride. Last-time-out winner Spanish Mane is another to consider along with Bold Decision, who bounced back to form recently and is partnered by one of the more experienced riders here.
