Offered little on last month's return from an absence at Market Rasen and remains 2 lb above his highest winning mark.
Low-mileage hurdler who opened his account in Perth novice over this trip in May 2019. Not seen again until fifth of 6 in Musselburgh handicap in February and absent a further 6 months since.
Dual novice hurdle winner in 2019. Made it to the track just 3 times last term but in process of running creditably when falling 2 out in Ludlow handicap when last seen in February.
Winning handicap hurdle debut at Uttoxeter (2m0 and back from a poor run at Stratford when narrowly denied over 2m here 14 days ago. Ought to be bang there if stamina holds up in trip.
Notched wins in quick succession at Musselburgh and Doncaster in December 2018. Not in top form under either code last year for Iain Jardine and he's also failed to fire in 3 runs for David Pipe.
Winner of maiden hurdle at Downpatrick in June 2018 but disappointing in 2 runs for Warren Greatrex at the end of 2018 and down the field in a couple of handicaps for this yard last autumn.
In decent form over fences last August, winning twice. Has a lower mark to work with over hurdles and could have a say if ready to roll after 10 months off.
Ended 2019 with 2 handicap hurdle wins around this trip. Down the field on Flat return at the end of June but could fare better back hurdling.
Progressing gradually, and good seventh in novice hurdle at Taunton (16.5f, heavy) 7 months ago. Type to do better in handicaps, especially back at 2½m, so interesting contender after wind op.
Drop to claiming company sae him get back to winning ways over C&D 3 weeks ago but it was a weak race and a bigger performance will be required for him to follow up back in handicap.
Forecasts
Dog Of War (3/1), Tight Call (7/2), Perfect City (7/2), Malangen (8/1), Skiddaw Valleys (17/2), Methag (9/1), Hillary John (20/1), Golden Jeffrey (22/1), Salto Chisco (28/1), Whatthebutlersaw (50/1)
DOG OF WAR appeals as a likely improver now handicapping on the back of wind surgery and gets the nod for the Skeltons, with confidence increased should the market speak in his favour. Perfect City has made a decent start in handicaps and is a likely big danger if seeing out 2½m. Tight Call is also of some interest on his return to action under Richard Johnson.
