Built upon the initial promise he showed in defeat when off the mark at the third time of asking at Tipperary (1m4f; yielding to soft). That form doesn't look anything to shout about in the context of this race.

Made hard work of landing extremely short odds (1/8f) when scoring at Naas (1m2f; good) but you get the impression he only does enough. Form of his third in the Irish Derby two starts ago reads well & he could be even better at 1m6f.

Went down fighting when denied by just half a length at Galway (1m2f; soft) at the start of the month which was a career-best. Needs to build on that but is evidently going the right way so not ruled out for top yard.

Didn't beat a single one of his five rivals when upped to this grade over 1m4f at this track last month after causing a minor shock to win on debut. Fair bit to prove now for all he has only had two career starts.

Looked a stayer to follow when making a winning return to action on debut at 1m4f at this track recently. Half-brother to a 1m6f winner so should come forward again as he steps up in trip but this is a big jump in class.

Returned to form when narrowly beaten at Down Royal (1m4f; yielding) and he is still unexposed as he tries pattern company again on his debut at 1m6f. Yet to prove he is worth his place in this grade.

Showed a huge amount of progression from low-key debut effort to hose up at Galway (1m4f; soft) when upped in trip. Now tries 1m6f and there should be plenty more to come as she receives weight from all her rivals.

Forecasts

Dawn Patrol (5/6), Emperor Of The Sun (9/2), Shoshone Warrior (9/2), Pista (14/1), Sunchart (14/1), Mr Mooj (16/1), Danger Money (20/1), Hy Brasil (40/1)

Verdict

He may have been workmanlike when pushed along to make sure he landed his long odds-on price at Naas recently, but that may just be the type of horse DAWN PATROL is in the respect he will only ever do enough. It is encouraging Seamie Heffernan opts to ride him over Shoshone Warrior & he can follow-up that breakthrough victory as he tries 1m6f for the first time. Emperor Of The Sun achieved a career-best when a narrow second in a competitive heat at the Galway Festival & is likely to be firmly on the premises. However, Pista looks the biggest danger to the selection given how much improvement he showed when off cruising home to score last time out.
  1. Dawn Patrol
  2. Pista
  3. Emperor Of The Sun
