Form has taken a nosedive in his last couple of starts and she needs to pull something out of the fire to stop the rot. She's well handicapped on old form but top weight and those two poor efforts conspire against her.

Poor form so far and a big improvement is needed now he takes a belated step into handicap company; others look stronger choices.

Unexposed and has shown improvement since stepping into handicap company. On a workable mark and could be sharpened up by the headgear; worth considering if the market is on her side.

Out of form since she returned to action and, although she appeals from a depreciating handicap mark perspective, her recent performances on the racecourse have left a bit to be desired.

Made good strides in two handicap starts so far; firstly with a near miss at Salisbury in early July before bolting up in a Class 6 at Yarmouth soon after. The handicapper has put him 13lb but he's still potentially got room to move; solid claims.

Won with something in hand at Pontefract (1m4f, good to firm) at the end of July and a 6lb higher mark is deflected by this being a weaker race. A career best is still required but feasible he'll cope; the betting will have to guide.

Yard strongly represented in the finale but this one has been ignored in the betting most times he's run. Interesting to compare odds with stablemates Half Bolly and the unexposed Vintage Rose; suggestion is that he needs to improve irrespective.

Wears a visor for the first time but form on the Flat has been uninspiring until now. Very possible he'll be third in line from the stable's contingent.

Three modest efforts posted prior to this handicap debut and is't hard to build a solid case for supporting him on his handicap debut.

Yard has a respectable record at this course but this fellow had no joy over 1m last time and is hard to recommend given that his only previous run over 1m4f was a poor effort. Others make a lot more appeal.

Finished nearer last than first in all starts before now and it would be surprising if he's going to prove the statistics wrong. He's unexposed at the trip and his yard is always to be respected but he does look like being a bit part player.

On a long, long losing run and not much to recommend from his reappearance run at Catterick last month. His presence does little other than bolster the size of the field.

0-12 and nothing in four starts since the end of June have suggested the filly's fortunes are about to change; yet another who is hard to side with despite this being a very weak race.

Well held in all three previous runs and yet to start a race at odds below 150/1; hard to see her being good enough to even make the frame on the evidence avilable.

Grand Canal (6/5), Monsaraz (3/1), Clifftop Heaven (11/2), Greengage (13/2), Vintage Rose (16/1), Half Bolly (16/1), Flower Power (18/1), Vampish (28/1), Gainsboro Grey (33/1), The Rocket Park (40/1), Strict Order (40/1), Vertice (50/1), Take That (50/1), Midnight Warrior (66/1), Gloryella (125/1)

Verdict

A low-key race which can go to GRAND CANAL, who is in the minority of runners that arrive here in any sort of recommendable form. Even the imposition of a 13lb higher mark for winning last time out isn't enough to put off a play in this modest company. Monsaraz needs a personal best in terms of ratings but has the ability to be a leading light in this motley line up; Vintage Rose is the pick of her stable's trio of intended runners and, along with Vampish, she completes the shortlist.
  1. Grand Canal
  2. Monsaraz
  3. Vintage Rose
