10/3
Penalised 7lb for his Bangor (20.3f) win last time bouncing back to form from a poor reappearance run over the same C&D. Helped by being back down to his last winning mark last time, now has defy new career-high, still in the mix though.

Fair sort over hurdles his chasing form is rather more modest; did win when last seen (October 2018) at Carlisle (2m4f) off a 3lb lower mark. Has in the past struggled for consistency and fitness would be a concern now off a long break.

Catterick winner earlier in the year by 7L, beat a tame finisher when showing improved form over 15.7f off a 5lb lower mark. Fitter for reappearance ran a fair race last time (first-time cheekpieces) at Market Rasen (17.2f), third (looked hard work).

First run for his new yard having rather looked to have lost his way for Joanne Foster his mark plummeting accordingly. Stays further than this trip potentially well handicapped and could be rejuvenated by the stable switch, one to note in market.

Age: 9|  Weight: 10-10| J: Benjamin Poste| T: Mrs R Gasson| OR:  84

Despite some creditable efforts remains a maiden with 30 starts now recorded without a win (0-13 over fences). Often travels well (did so on his latest outing at Southwell), finds it hard to finish the job, does deserve to win a race at some point.

Grand Coureurb,t21
Age: 8|  Weight: 10-7| J: P J Brennan| T: O Greenall & J Guerriero| OR:  81| CD
9/2
Resumed winning ways when defeating the luckless Scartare over C&D last time having been set plenty to do during the race (found plenty for pressure). Form prior to his a little inconsistent, needs to show that he can record back-to-back wins.

Age: 11|  Weight: 10-3| J: Harry Reed(3)| T: N P Mulholland| OR:  77

In good enough form over fences last season without winning (some fair placed efforts), fact remains he's not won for over four years. Way below his last winning mark, hard to trust he could run near that now, fit from the Flat but limited appeal.

Anti Coolb,t15
Age: 11|  Weight: 10-2| J: Tabitha Worsley(5)| T: R Dickin| OR:  76| C
16/1
Secured his first success for over three years when winning last June at Market Rasen (21.4f) off this mark (weak event). Not matched that form since, needed the run last time (often shapes well), back on his last winning mark.

First Manb1,t23
Age: 5|  Weight: 10-0| J: David England| T: O Greenall & J Guerriero| OR:  74
66/1
Form over hurdles/fences is modest to say the least with his chasing form being blighted by jumping errors even in a first-time tongue-tie at Bangor last time. Never landed a blow last time and hard to enthuse over even in a modest event like this.

Code Of Lawp21
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-0| J: Sam Twiston-Davies| T: N P Mulholland| OR:  73
14/1
Prone to popping up with a win out of the blue as he did for his last win in July 2019, took advantage of a much-reduced mark (has been successful off higher marks). Form uneven since, shaped better than finishing position last time, finds little.

Cnoc Sionp141
Age: 10|  Weight: 10-0| J: David Noonan| T: R Brotherton| OR:  71| D
66/1
3lb out of the handicap his overall profile is an unreliable one summed up by his 1-17 chasing record. Returns from another break with very few positives, hard to make present a positive case for his chance given the circumstances.

Forecasts

Brotherly Company (3/1), Damut I'm Out (10/3), Grand Coureur (9/2), Scartare (5/1), Getaway North (17/2), Code Of Law (14/1), Vexillum (16/1), Anti Cool (16/1), Swinton Diamond (50/1), First Man (66/1), Cnoc Sion (66/1)

Verdict

A shortage of solid options with two recent winners supplying the safest options in what is a weak contest. Damut I’m Out carries a 7lb penalty for his Bangor win last time out having run below-par there on his comeback. However, he now has to defy a career-high mark and that just nudges the selection in the direction of C&D winner Grand Coureur who came from way off the pace to win here last time to defeat the luckless Scartare (sure to run another sound race). Course winner Anti Cool has flirted with coming back to form on a couple of occasions and like the very well handicapped Brotherly Company it wouldn’t be a surprise if that pair got involved.
  1. Grand Coureur
  2. Damut I'm Out
  3. Scartare
