Shamardal colt (150,000gns yearling) from an unraced half-sister to the Oaks heroine Love Devine; finished down the field (ninth of ten to Sunray Major) on debut at Newmarket (1m, good) 52 days ago.
220,000gns vendor yearling; half-brother to three winners, including the Grp 2 scorer I Can Fly; wasn't beaten too far (hot contest) when fifth of 12 to Magical Morning at Doncaster (1m, good/firm) five weeks ago; has since undergone wind surgery.
50,000gns yearling; raced keenly (finished a tailed-off last of 12) on debut at Lingfield (1m2f, AW) 52 days ago; needs to fare a great deal better here; is totally unconsidered.
Helmet colt; sold for a knock-down 12,000gns in January; slowly away and never better than midfield when eighth of 13 (25-1) to the William Haggas-trained Kettle Hill at Windsor (1m, good to firm) last week.
£18,000 yearling; second foal from the 1m½f winner Ice Mayden; slowly away, and always on the back foot as a result when finishing a remote last of 14 (33-1) on C&D debut 23 days ago.
Siyouni colt; half-brother to two winners - Patrick Sarsfield (1m-1m2f, inc Grp 3) and Tooreen Katie (1m4f); in there pitching until late in the day when fourth (14-1) on Newmarket debut (1m, good) 18 days ago; sets the benchmark.
Siyouni colt (€62,000 yearling, €67,000 juvenile); fifth live foal from the French 1m winner Golden Bottle; winning siblings include Rock Samphire (7f-1m) and Judgement of Paris (6½f AW).
Six-race maiden with an official rating of just 31; tailed-off last of 12 on recent C&D return; basically is seeking divine intervention; no chance.
Night Of Thunder filly; first foal from the once-raced Coral Garden (a sister to the 1m7f+ Grp 2 winner Coastal Path); in safe hands with James Tate, but it's surely debatable as to whether or not 1m at Thirsk will be a stiff enough stamina test.
Forecasts
Polar Appeal (4/11), Daniel Deronda (7/2), Segla (9/1), Garden Paradise (11/1), A'shamardi (14/1), Delaquinn (125/1), Helix (125/1), Lucas (200/1), Thomas Hawk (300/1)
Daniel Deronda contested an above-average novice race at Doncaster last month (fifth), and having undergone wind surgery since is certainly no back-number in a potentially modest race. Meanwhile, the newcomers Segla (David Simcock) and Garden Paradise (James Tate) have winners in their family lines, although the latter named of that pair may ultimately require a greater test of stamina than a sharp 1m around Thirsk. Therefore, the obvious selection is the William Haggas-trained Siyouni colt POLAR APPEAL. He finished just behind his stablemate (the fellow newcomer Piranesi) when a commendable fourth to Godolphin's Stunning Beauty at Newmarket (1m) 18 days ago.
- Polar Appeal
- Daniel Deronda
- Garden Paradise
