Some decent looking form figures to his name last year, but they were all achieved in small fields and he was turned over at long odds-on on one occasion. Needs to prove himself at this trip, and might want the rain to stay away too.
Latest effort was a big step forward, well backed to take the Class 1 Summer Cup at Uttoxeter, and finished a close fourth. Repeat of that off the same mark must take him close, but is another that might not want too much rain.
Looked a useful prospect in novices chases last year but a bit disappointing in the valuable Summer Plate at Market Rasen on his reappearance. Still time to get it right, this trip should suit, as ought a smaller field. Has chances.
Getting on a bit in years and form has become rather hit-and-miss, to say the least. Ran a little better than finishing position suggests in the Summer Cup, travelling well and weakening late. Has chances if coming on from that, but comes with risk.
Has some very good form to his name, such as his neck second in the valuable Badger Beer Handicap at Wincanton last season, but was well below par on reappearance. Yard in better form now though, and on a good mark, so could leave that behind.
Ready winner from a 2lb lower mark at Perth last year and ran to that level when tackling soft ground at Cartmel later in the year. Has a C&D win to his name as well, so if fit after absence, would have chances.
Looked all over the winner of the Summer Cup latest, but possibly hit the front too soon and was caught on the line. Nudged up 2lb and acts on most ground, so a clear contender again, but did have a hard race late on at Uttoxeter.
Only seen once in the last 18 months, that when pulling up at Doncaster in February, and clearly hasn't been easy to train. In good hands but questions remain as to what ability is retained at this stage. Best watched.
Forecasts
Bandsman (9/4), Padleyourowncanoe (3/1), Potterman (7/2), Imada (15/2), Soupy Soups (15/2), Ennistown (18/1), Henryville (18/1), Red Giant (33/1)
Bandsman is the one to beat after his close second in the Summer Cup at Uttoxeter where he looked all over the winner but was run down late. He can ill afford any late errors, as happened there, but his chance with a clear round is obvious. POTTERMAN was a bit disappointing in Market Rasen's Summer Plate but this is easier and it's still early days over fences with him, so this is a chance for him to get back on track. Red Giant has a decent record at this track and has chances if fit, and Padleyourowncanoe, despite having a bit of ground to make up on Bandsman, can be given a chance too.
- Potterman
- Bandsman
- Red Giant
