Twice a winner over hurdles but handicapper seemed to have her measure for much of last year, although he offers a helping hand after her latest close fourth at Market Rasen, dropped 2lb. Best form on quicker, so won't appreciate a lot of rain.

Did win a mares handicap hurdle at Taunton from just 1lb higher last year but she's hard to catch right at the best of times, and weakened quickly on reappearance at Market Rasen three weeks ago. May come on a bit for that.

Ready winner at Kelso over slightly shorter last December but it unravelled rather quickly after that, pulled up in two subsequent attempts. Won't mind any rain and possible fresh might be the time to catch her, but she comes with some risk.

Good effort when second to the useful Deputy's Oscar at Market Rasen last year but she's not reproduced that in two subsequent runs and was a bit too keen for her own good on reappearance. Could do better with that freshness out of her today.

Another change of trainer for her (third in three runs), this coming after a very moderate season and she was pulled up on her last two starts. Can only be watched until showing a bit more.

2016 was the last time she visited the winners enclosure, and her form last year hardly suggested she was getting any nearer to rectifying that. On a good mark and yard can land a gamble, so needs a market check, but others have stronger profiles.

Almost won one (over slightly shorter) here last season and well worth a crack at this trip on that. Only 1lb higher today, has had a run to blow the cobwebs away, and might have a better chance than her form figures suggest.

Of limited ability but she does try, and has hit the frame in five of her nine hurdles starts, including last time out at Stratford. Handicapper helps with another 3lb drop, top jockey booked, and could easily take another prize home if she stays.

Forecasts

Floral Bouquet (5/2), Mabela (16/5), Cotton End (4/1), Dariya (9/2), Animore (11/2), Absolute Jaffa (11/2), Cape Fair (14/1), Fool To Cry (33/1), Berboru (66/1)

Verdict

Nothing comes into this with a rock-solid profile, and it looks a race that's up for grabs. Drying ground would aid the chance of Floral Bouquet and Mabela, whereas a bit of juice in the ground might be ideal for Dariya, who seems to have a leading chance of she can come on a little from her Uttoxeter reappearance. But a chance is taken that CAPE FAIR will appreciate this step up in trip, as she would have a good chance on her neck second here last June. She should strip fitter for an outing at Southwell and can spring a minor surprise.
  1. Cape Fair
  2. Dariya
  3. Floral Bouquet
