Didn't progress as much as was expected when fourth at Haydock (6f; good to soft) when dropped back to this trip for the first time. The two races he has contested so far have had a strong look to them so he is still respected.
Starspangledbanner colt made 25,000gns as a yearling. Half-brother to five winners of various different ability. Stable form a major concern (0-36 in the last 14 days) though so perhaps best watched on debut.
US pedigree. By Bobby's Kitten out of a mare who is an unraced half-sister to 2000 Guineas winner Kameko. Cost 16,000gns as a foal. Yard not readily associated with winning newcomers.
€45,000 yearling by Zoffany. Closely related to Group Two winner Zacinto and a half-brother to three winners (over trips ranging from 1m-1m5f). Likely to have a bright enough future judged on pedigree so is considered.
By Footstepsinthesand and made €50,000 as a yearling. Half-brother to four winners including useful handicapper Randall Stevens. Nice enough type on paper, and a market check is subsequently advised.
Showcasing colt. £150,000 yearling. Dam won over 5f (including as a two-year-old) and is a half-sister to a 6f two-year-old Group Three winner. Market likely to prove informative with this newcomer on debut.
Debut form in behind Hala Hala Hala & She's So Nice has been boosted since. Steps back up to 6f after finding the step-up to 'Listed' company at York (5f; good to soft) a bit too much recently. Too early to write off and worth another chance.
Forecasts
Cairn Island (9/4), Readman (11/4), Miss Nay Never (5/1), Outrun The Storm (6/1), Love Of Zoffany (6/1), Heights Of Abraham (22/1), Kats Bob (28/1)
Preference is for the sole filly in the field in the shape of MISS NAY NEVER who receives 5lb from all six of her rivals. She showed definite promise on debut when third in a strong race (winner is useful and the second has won since) and she can be forgiven a below-par effort when last seen in 'Listed' company. All of the newcomers including Outrun The Storm and Love Of Zoffany look the part on paper, but if one of them is to prove above-average then the Showcasing-colt Readman looks most likely to do so. Meanwhile, Cairn Island shouldn't be written off just yet after not being disgraced in a pair of above-average maidens at Haydock on both starts so far.
- Miss Nay Never
- Readman
- Cairn Island
