Progressed nicely last season when winning three times over the mile; good effort again on second start back when 2L fourth in Killarney apprentice h'cap (1m, good) 12 days ago. Eased 1lb and be competitive on track where she has run well before.
Runner-up on h'cap debut here over 1m½f (soft-to-heavy) in October; hasn't happened for her in two Leopardstown runs since returning but back here with visor fitted first time and rider taking off 5lb down in trip; claims and any rain a help.
Soft-ground Curragh maiden winner last season over 6f but has proved inconsistent around that effort; not beaten far at Leopardstown over this trip last month and could have place notions from the same mark.
UK import won an AW handicap at Lingfield over this distance in August last year (rated 74); fairly consistent afterwards and unexposed on grass making stable debut in first-time hood after a layoff. Could mount a challenge.
Won a Dundalk claimer in March over 1m2½f and started life for this trainer with Roscommon success over similar trip last month. Has gone well over this shorter trip in the past and wouldn't eliminate too readily with Shane Foley back on top.
Has failed to turn some obvious potential into winning form and beginning to be expensive to follow. Dylan Thomas filly ran well in defeat on return to action at Roscommon in a maiden last month. Tongue-tied for h'cap bow but hard to have faith.
Defied a 12lb hike in the ratings when winning over this trip at Leopardstown on Thursday; carries another 6lb penalty in a stronger race but she's a mare on top of her game and warrants respect turned out quickly.
Mostly struggled in maidens for John Oxx last year and failed to meet market expectations on return/handicap bow at Gowran Park (1m1½f, good; 6-1) for new handler last month. Drops right back in trip and far too soon to be dismissive.
16-race maiden who showed some promise last summer after joining this trainer, including twice rattling the crossbar over further at this meeting. Rated 1lb lower on first start for 250 days and was poor towards the end of last term.
Wins have tended to come on soft ground; the latest at Listowel last September from the front; he's back to a workable mark but it would be a mild should he prove the answer today.
Cost €20,000 as a yearling; some promise shown in three qualifying runs recently, the latest on the Polytrack at Dundalk over this trip; has to improve generously now tackling handicap for the first time.
All four career wins have arrived on AW surfaces (0-11 on turf); has just missed out on place money in his last two starts at Fairyhouse (7f, good); eased 2lb now but getting into the frame might be the limit of his aspirations today.
Experienced mare has resumed in fine fettle for new yard; twice finishing second at Fairyhouse over 6f/7f; she's inching up the ratings as a result and now ventures into stronger company on her first trip to Ballybrit.
Forecasts
Lady Scathach (5/2), Royal Canford (7/2), Billyfairplay (13/2), Lightning Amber (8/1), Aced It (17/2), Dedillon (9/1), Emphatic (16/1), Will Be King (20/1), Pulsating (22/1), High Altitude (28/1), Rattling Jewel (28/1), Visionara (40/1), Grey Hill (100/1)
The manner in which Lady Scathach defied the handicapper at Leopardstown four days ago ensures she isn't to be underestimated despite a 6lb penalty now but this is a classier event and perhaps she's been cornered for the moment. High Altitude has gone well here before and is in the mix along with the likes of Lightning Amber and Aced It. Emphatic twice hit the crossbar here lasts summer but lacks a recent run so preference is for WILL BE KING who won on penultimate start at Roscommon and travelled well since at the Curragh in better company before find less than looked likely. He drops in trip and has form at this distance.
- Will Be King
- Lightning Amber
- Aced It
