Won over C&D (good) last time, his first success over this short-a-trip (multiple scorer over 7f-1m previously). Up 6lb for that, but if he could come up with a similar effort then he'd doubtless be thereabouts again.
Triple 6f winner on fast ground, but hasn't been successful since 2017. Competitive in all three of his starts so far this season, and another 1lb drop won't harm his chance, but needs to pull out more to win again.
Won a Doncaster novice event (7f, good to firm) as a juvenile, when with Karl Burke, but has been unable to add to that. Drops in grade here, and while he should be able to get in a blow, not sure his recent form entitles him to win this.
Multiple winner over 6f-6½f on good or fast ground, but is another without a win since 2017. Reappeared with a good effort to go close at Redcar last month, but has to shrug off a lesser Newbury effort. Not ruled out.
Multiple winner over 5f-6f, on all types of going. On a handy mark again here based on his form of 2019, but has been a long way below that in three runs this season. Plenty to prove at present.
Multiple AW winner who is just 1-26 on turf, that win coming at Thirsk (6f, good to firm) two years ago. 10lb higher today, after winning at Newcastle (5f, AW) last time out, but could finish in the money if repeating that effort.
Dual sprint winner on good/soft ground. Returned to action with a first handicap success at Thirsk (5f, good) last month, when 6lb lower and went close next time at Hamilton. Held from this mark last time, so needs to raise his game again.
Mudlark who has won three times over either 5f or 6f. Remains 8lb higher than the most recent of those at Hamilton last September. Went close at Haydock (5f, soft) last time and if it turns soft he'd have to be considered.
Has won eight of her 34 starts, her three turf wins being on a variety of going over 5f/6f. Has improved since the last of those and arrives on the back of a Newcastle (5f, AW) win on her reappearance. Up 5lb, but has to be respected.
Dual sprint winner on good/fast ground but now on a 21-race losing run dating back to 2018. Went very close on AW at Kempton (6f) on his penultimate start. Soft ground a possible excuse at Chepstow latest, but more needed now up 1lb.
Triple winner over 6f-7f, all on good to soft/soft ground. Has run with credit on both starts for this trainer, but not sure a 1lb drop will be enough to see him get his nose in front just yet.
Won back-to-back soft ground Nottingham handicaps over this trip last year, the more recent when 2lb lower than today. That sort of form would give him a squeak, and he has shown he retains that ability this season. Blinkers go on. Interesting.
14-race maiden who has gone close over both 5f and 6f. However, he has been below par in both starts this season, and much more is needed in this field.
Multiple Pontefract winner over this trip and goes on most ground. Scored at Ripon for a second time on his most recent start, so arrives in form, but this looks a fair bit tougher from 8lb higher.
Forecasts
Tukhoom (4/1), Abate (11/2), Barrington (13/2), Autumn Flight (8/1), Normandy Barriere (10/1), Canford's Joy (11/1), Victory Angel (12/1), Swissterious (14/1), Queen Of Kalahari (14/1), Ugo Gregory (16/1), Paddy Power (18/1), Round The Island (25/1), Mutabaahy (33/1), Kyllachy Warrior (66/1)
Autumn Flight and stable companion Ugo Gregory would both be of particular interest here if conditions include 'soft' in the description, but QUEEN OF KALAHARI arrives in good form, is versatile with regard to the ground and should make a good go of her attempt to defy a 5lb rise. Tukhoom, Normandy Barriere and Mutabaahy are others for who cases can be made.
- Queen Of Kalahari
- Normandy Barriere
- Tukhoom
