Useful chaser when on song, winner of three of his seven starts last year and today's conditions absolutely fine for him. On a career high mark after finishing off last year with a win in better grade at Doncaster and might be vulnerable here.

Last win came from a 2lb higher mark at Musselburgh in the January of 2019 but form since then mixed, and he was beaten too quickly for comfort in the Summer Plate at Market Rasen last time. Best watched at present.

Took the scalp of the useful Who Dares Wins at Plumpton last year, taking advantage of other's mistakes. Not seen since pulling up in the Brown Advisory at the Cheltenham Festival and might be happier in small fields these days.

Ran out a ready C&D winner last September but the handicapper took exception to that, and raised him 8lb. Pulled up on subsequent start (no explanation offered) and not seen since. Yard going well and conditions fine, but not one for maximum faith.

Very useful handicap chaser a couple of seasons back and showed he still had plenty to offer when making all over hurdles at Bangor on latest start. On a fair mark if he can translate that back to fences today, and will give it a go from the front.

Last win came at Ayr (heavy ground) in November and although he was pretty consistent after that, he found winning hard off his revised mark. Likely to need this run to put him straight and may want softer ground regardlesss.

Steady progress last year, winning a couple of lower grade handicap chases with some ease before biting off more than he could chew in the Summer Plate at Market Rasen. Unlikely to be improving at the age of 12 and others preferred.

Very classy handicap chaser at his peak but plenty of water has passed under the bridge since then, and he finds winning hard these days. May be better at slightly shorter anyway, and may need this after an absence.

On a very good mark on historical form but that's down to a series of very moderate efforts over the past 12 months. Probably wants a bit further than this and unless very strong in the market, can only be watched here.

Forecasts

Mercian Prince (2/1), Monsieur Gibraltar (2/1), Solar Impulse (11/2), Lovato (6/1), Western Miller (15/2), River Frost (8/1), Ronava (10/1), De Plotting Shed (11/1), Knockgraffon (12/1), Scoop The Pot (18/1)

Verdict

Mercian Prince returned to form on his latest start, albeit over hurdles, and he's sure to try and lead this lot from start to finish, but he may face a bit of early competition for the lead from Western Miller, which won't help his cause. MONSIEUR GIBRALTAR has improved in point-to-points since last being seen under Rules and with his ideal conditions here, can come out on top. Lovato wouldn't be the most consistent around but is capable on his day.
  1. Monsieur Gibraltar
  2. Mercian Prince
  3. Lovato
