Progressive throughout much of last season, winning a bumper and minor maiden hurdle before improving to finish second in some good quality novice hurdles. Soft ground no good to him on final start and under ideal conditions here, has chances.

Looked the winner here last week when kicking clear before two out but not for the first time, finished off weakly and was caught. Ability is there but he needs holding onto as long as possible before delivering his one run.

C&D winner here just over a year ago, but handicapper hit him hard after that, and he was expensive to follow, twice a beaten favourite. Yard in good form, no trip or ground worries, so should run his race but may find something too good.

Consistent throughout most of last year and his defeat of the useful Gunnery at Bangor last June is decent form. Conditions ideal here and this still looks a very workable mark, so with yard getting into gear, has chances.

Cartmel winner last August but handicapper took immediate action and he found life harder in two subsequent starts, well held. May be using this as a warm up before a visit to Cartmel, where he goes well, and is best watched.

Been some time since he was seen over hurdles and wasn't in any great form on the Flat earlier in the year, and only positive is the form of the yard, who have twice won with Collodi since the return of racing.

Looked to have a bright future ahead of him when early promise saw him score at Stratford last March; highly tried after that but didn't improve and finished off the season weakly. Could be that fresh is the time to catch him, but he's risky.

Would give this lot a start and a beating on the best of his form but some while since he showed that. The odd sign last year that all is not totally lost and for the first time in a while will have his ground, but supporters are at their wits' end.

Age: 6|  Weight: 11-3| J: P J Brennan| T: Noel Williams| OR:  114| BF

Pretty consistent insomuch as he's been in the frame without scoring on four of his last six starts, but he's not really improving and was a slightly disappointing favourite at Newton Abbot latest. Good pace up front would help his cause late on.

Quirky doesn't even begin to describe him, has talent to win races but just as happy to throw the towel in if he feels like it. This mark is workable on his Bangor win last year and conditions fine, so it depends what side of bed he's got out of.

Steady progression over hurdles last year, and his third at Doncaster on final start is a much better effort. Looks very well handicapped on best of his Flat form (for William Haggas) and if fit, looks one of the main players.

Came up against some useful sorts in his novice races, best effort coming on good ground at Wincanton last October and lesser efforts on soft suggest he needs decent ground. Fit after a couple of runs on the Flat and has chances on handicap debut.

Forecasts

Get Back Get Back (5/2), Twin Star (9/2), John Constable (11/2), Chef De Troupe (6/1), Story Of Friends (6/1), Petit Palais (10/1), Dream Machine (11/1), Reverend Jacobs (25/1), Torolight (25/1), The Steward (40/1), Malangen (66/1), Grand Inquisitor (100/1)

Verdict

John Constable is going to drop in again in one of these events and it could be here, as he's finally got his ground. His supporters have needed the deepest of deep pockets though, and there are plenty of alternatives. Get Back Get Back travelled like the best horse here last week but didn't get home, and maybe he will be held onto longer before delivering his run this time. Chef De Troupe should be around at the finish too, but maybe REVEREND JACOBS has more to offer after a better run at Doncaster (when Twin Star finished behind him). He was useful on the Flat and this test looks ideal.
  1. Reverend Jacobs
  2. Get Back Get Back
  3. John Constable
