Fairly-weighted veteran; turned in an improved display when finishing a keeping on second to Spanish Mane over 1m here (good to firm) 23 days ago; has won a Class 6 C&D handicap in the past (August 2018).
Poor win ratio on turf (1-24); absent since toiling on the AW (dwelt and hampered at the start) at Chelmsford in January; very difficult to enthuse over indeed; stablemate of Tattenhams.
Made steady progress since introduced to low-grade handicapping; off the mark with a silky smooth 5½L win at Ripon (1m, good) last week; ahead of the handicapper under a 6lb penalty, and clearly the horse to beat; steps up in trip.
Maiden (0-10); hasn't shown a great deal of promise since returning from a lengthy absence; beaten almost 13L when fourth to Settle Petal at Windsor (1m2f, good to firm) latest; stablemate of Rainbow Jazz.
Only brief glimpses of ability in three Irish maidens for Joseph G Murphy; off the track for 459 days, so best watched (with a basic check on the market) on handicap/stable debut.
Didn't show any improvement for the switch to turf (handicap debut) when tackling a new trip (1m4½f) at Ripon last week; this isn't a particularly strong race by any means, yet he is difficult to recommend nevertheless.
Low-key thus far, including on handicap debut at Chelmsford (1m) earlier this month; the handicapper has reacted immediately by lowering her 4lb in the weights; hardly enticing.
Scrambled home (4-1) in a poor 7f Class 6 Southwell handicap in January; 0-4 since, and it's debatable as to whether or not he can be effective over this 1m2f trip; as a winner does tick more boxes than some.
Returning from almost a year off the track when struggling (100-1) to make her mark at Lingfield (1m AW) last month; eased 8lb in the weights since; can make precious little appeal despite tackling a new trip.
Far from convincing in a finish, but in truth she's done okay of late (stamina possibly ebbed away over 1m4½f on her penultimate start); a repeat of last week's Ripon performance (second) ought to see her on the premises.
Poor form to date (0-5); side-stepped an engagement at Windsor on Monday in order to take her place in this contest; the first-time visor needs to work the oracle, and you certainly couldn't bank on it doing so.
Hasn't beaten a single rival in his last three starts; has left the care of Jamie Osborne since a spin over hurdles at Newton Abbot 15 days ago; hood newly-applied from a plating mark (40).
Forecasts
Volcano Bay (11/8), Alpine Mistral (13/8), Saw The Sea (10/1), Lunar Deity (12/1), Home For Half Past (14/1), Tattenhams (16/1), Sea of Cool (25/1), Rainbow Jazz (50/1), Margaretha (66/1), American Dreamer (80/1), Alsukar (100/1), Ride And Prejudice (125/1)
It'll come as a major surprise if any of those declared prove capable of taking a significant step forward from what they've shown previously (limited to say the least), so the short-list is exactly as described. Whilst the veteran Lunar Deity and Sea Of Cool have both proved capable of winning races in the past, this is surely best left to the 'in-form' duo Volcano Bay and ALPINE MISTRAL, who were both in action at Ripon last week. The selection tackles a new trip on this occasion, but is clearly the one to beat under a 6lb penalty following her recent silky smooth 5½L win.
- Alpine Mistral
- Volcano Bay
- Lunar Deity
