Good winner over this distance at Cork in October and Navan second (2m7f, heavy; 10-1) in February was another strong showing. Shade unfortunate to up 3lb for that but was clear of the remainder and considered again.
Dual hurdles winner, most recently a handicap at Punchestown (2m3½f, yielding; 6-1) on New Year's Eve; below best in three runs since however and so more demanded up in trip with stamina to prove.
Three-time hurdles winner over shorter and point-to-point scorer earlier in career; good second at Bellewstown (2m4f, good to yielding; 9-1) recently and despite being up 3lb appeals as one that will do well over this extended journey.
Strike-rate is poor (1-32) and plenty water has gone under the bridge since Killarney win in 2017. On a fair mark should he find his best stuff but well beaten on debut for this trainer 10 days ago and may be best watched.
Low-mileage for 10-years-old; runner-up both starts this term at Roscommon and Kilbeggan over similar trips to this on good ground; creeping up the ratings accordingly but should give another solid account.
5½L to find with Kilkishen having finished a place behind that rival in third at Roscommon last month; may be sharper for that run but overall profile hasn't suggested he's going to win from a mark as high as this.
Was back from 209 days off when midfield at Roscommon (3m1f, good; 18-1) last month and that leaves him with work to do in facing a couple of these rivals again; can't be ruled out with fitness now boosted.
Found his mojo in 2019; winning three times over timber and signing off with first-time success over fences at Sligo (3m½f, good to yielding; 16-1) in September. Has tended to need a run in the past; betting should be informative.
Twice won over hurdles last year after joining this trainer (also won over fences); no concerns with trip/ground and shaped nicely on reappearance at Kilbeggan (sixth, beaten 8L) 10 days ago. May go well.
Off the mark at second attempt in bumpers in June 2019; slowly progressing afterwards in novice hurdles and some promise last month in Tipperary maiden (2m4f, yielding; 11-1). May be more to come up in trip now handicapping for top trainer.
Navan maiden hurdle winner (2m, heavy; 6-1) in March before well held in novice h'cap at Down Royal soon after; pair of sound efforts on the Flat recently and could be more to come in first-time blinkers back in this sphere. Second runner for yard.
Fairyhouse bumper winner in October on first start but little to enthuse over in three subsequent outings in maiden hurdles at up to 2m4f; needs a good step forward on this handicap bow.
Won his maiden hurdle here over 2m4f back in 2017; has won over fences (2018) and on the Flat (2019) since but profile isn't convincing and makes little appeal from current mark returning from 347-day absence.
Forecasts
Gun Merchant (4/1), Kilkishen (4/1), Cooldine Bog (7/1), Flooring Porter (15/2), Roi De Dubai (8/1), Global Racing (8/1), Henry Brown (10/1), Cusp Of Carabelli (11/1), Mon Storm (16/1), Metal Man (25/1), Mister Eddman (25/1), Dawn Raider (33/1), Venezia (40/1)
Gun Merchant and Metal Man are entitled to consideration for the in-form Gordon Elliott operation while Global Racing shaped with a good deal of promise on comeback at Kilbeggan and so joins Kilkishen (second last two starts) on the shortlist. Flooring Porter is up 3lb for a runner-up finish at Navan 155 days ago but should be suited on this sounder surface. ROI DE DUBAI knows how to win and was a pleasing second on his recent comeback at Bellewstown. He, too, is 3lb higher today but promises to be suited over this longer journey and may provide this trainer/jockey/owner combe with a second hurdles winner of the month.
- Roi De Dubai
- Flooring Porter
- Gun Merchant
