Carries a 7lb penalty against some useful once-raced types having made a winning start to his career in comfortable fashion over 6f at Newcastle. Strong in the betting there he was beating a previous debut winner, from a good family, more to come.

Newcomer from a yard who are 0-39 with 2yo debutants in the last five years. €20,000 yearling, first foal, dam unraced sister to smart 10f winner Think Ahead. Blinkers worn for debut hardly an encouraging sign, best watched.

Most experienced in the field (two starts), lacked the usual sharpness of one from this yard on debut at Newcastle (6f), looked better over C&D last time. Beaten by one on its debut, open to further progress, cheekpieces now added for first-time.

Yard going well with 2yo's of late, showed plenty to work from his debut at Haydock (6f, firm) despite not quite loving up to market expectations. Bred to be sharp (dam, Queen Mary winner), will be better for his last experience, progress assured.
Yard 1-18 with 2yo's this year; made some appeal on pedigree when making his debut at Musselburgh (5f, good), finished well held, slow to stride. May be sharper now, would need considerable improvement to take a hand.

£62,000 Breeze Up purchase, yard not known for their 2yo winners though especially on debut (0-6 last five years). First 2yo runner of the season for them, second foal, dam 7f winner from useful family, would be a surprise winner.

Wee Dracula

125/1
Newcomer, £12,000 yearling, third foal, half-brother to 11f/12f winner North Hunter. Dam, German 11f winner by Maduro, pedigree looks a stamina-laden one, longer-term prospect from a yard not known for their juveniles.

Forecasts

Darvel (11/8), Toussarok (15/8), Captain Magnum (4/1), Water Of Leith (18/1), Bulls Aye (22/1), Denzil's Laughing (33/1), Wee Dracula (125/1)

Verdict

This looks to concern three of the seven with all those in the mix having had at least one run. TOUSSAROK has to give away a 7lb penalty bit the manner of his Newcastle win as a taking one and with his yard having already 21 2yo winners he’s taken to add to that tally and go onto better things. It won’t be easy though as the expensively purchased Darvel (380,000gns) will know more this time than he did on his Haydock debut and the Kevin Ryan yard have really found their form of late. Captain Magnum from the Archie Watson yard also enters the equation although he might not have as much scope as the other two – cheekpieces now added to sharpen him up.
  1. Toussarok
  2. Darvel
  3. Captain Magnum
