Always in rear (often fencing poorly) on return to action here earlier this month; reverts back to hurdles for the first time since April 2019; undoubtedly attractively handicapped in this discipline if she's on a going day.
Remains a maiden (0-11 over hurdles), albeit has threatened on a number of occasions, including when ducking out late on in a Sedgefield bumper (Oct 2018); solid second to Perfect City at Uttoxeter (2m, good) latest; 3lb higher.
Won three times on the Flat (1m2f-1m4f) for Amanda Perrett before a change of scenery in late 2019 (sold for 16,000gns); low-key in novice events for her new trainer, but isn't prohibitively weighted (mark of 104) for her handicap debut.
Off the mark at the ninth attempt with a 7L success at Huntingdon (2m, good to soft) in March; that form is probably no more than modest, and it's debatable as to whether or not she merits an 8lb rise.
Headed on the line on her first start for this trainer at Sedgefield (2m5f, soft) last November but hasn't managed to scale those heights since, hence an ease in the weights (5lb); the extended break may have done her some good.
Brought her record over hurdles to 0-8, with a totally uninspiring effort over 2m4f here (good) earlier this month; the handicapper has cut her some slack by easing her 4lb in the weights; stablemate of Realta Dawn; look elsewhere.
Twice successful over hurdles in Ireland (for Jonathan Fogarty); hasn't found her feet yet for Dan & Harry Skelton (0-4); raced keenly and weakened at the business end of the race as a result when safely held by Emma Lamb latest.
Finished strongly from off the pace to rattle the woodwork at Bangor (2m1f, good to soft) on her penultimate start; disappointing (third) at Stratford next time, and off since (for 397 days); shouldn't be completely ignored from a workable mark.
Showed initial promise (novice hurdles) for Charlie Longsdon in late 2018; didn't progress in handicaps thereafter; remains lightly-raced (& lowly weighted); can Dan Skelton unlock some improvement off a 565-day absence?; stablemate of Robin Gold.
Point-to-point winner; has struggled under rules after commencing her handicap career off a stiff looking mark (116) - now down to a career low of 94; has fallen on two of her last four starts; a risky proposition?
Was returning from an eight-month absence when finishing just under 10L fourth of ten to Saintbury Lady over C&D on Tuesday; could strip fitter for that run, yet doesn't really appeal as a winner in waiting either.
Sole win (from 24 starts) came over an extended 2m5f at Wincanton (good to firm) last November; shouldn't really be troubling the judge in this contest despite her low weight; equally unconvincing stablemate of Josie Abbing.
Forecasts
Emma Lamb (9/4), Josie Abbing (13/2), Local Affair (7/1), Bossiney Bay (17/2), Roses Poses (9/1), Grania O'Malley (10/1), Robin Gold (12/1), Deputy Jones (14/1), Lostnfound (20/1), Lightening Dance (22/1), Realta Dawn (25/1), Cape Fair (25/1)
Dan Skelton saddles two runners, and it'll be interesting to assess the market vibes in relation to the lightly-raced and lowly-weighted returnee Roses Poses (Harry Skelton seemingly prefers Robin Gold). Meanwhile, the likes of Lightening Dance, Lostnfound and Cape Fair would appear to be feasibly handicapped. However, off the back of a pleasing effort at Uttoxeter latest (now 3lb higher) this could be the day that the Dr Richard Newland-trained EMMA LAMB finally sheds her maiden status.
- Emma Lamb
- Roses Poses
- Lightening Dance
