Glimmers of hope in an AW third at Wolverhampton (7.2f) earlier in the year but looks to have got worse rather than better since then. Well behind Carlovian at Thirsk (6f, good/soft) last time, back to 7f, others persuade far more overall.

Dual winner at up to 1m last September taking back-to-back Musselburgh handicaps of the same and a 3lb higher mark than today. Lost his way towards the end of 2019, some evidence of late that he could make use of this mark, headgear now removed.

Heavy ground C&D winner last August that a precursor to a Catterick win over 7f also on soft ground. Attitude has been questioned, stable still a little quiet but granted a good pace (helps him settle) could play a part in this off this mark.

Dual C&D winner, the latest coming in July of mark that had nudged beneath his last winning one (out of the blue in form terms). Profile since then including on return to action rather unconvincing, one to take care with despite attractive mark.

Great Colaci7
Age: 7|  Weight: 9-6| J: J Fanning| T: G Boanas| OR:  54| D
9/4
Reliable performer at a modest level, looked as good as ever when defying a 15-month absence at Newcastle (7.1f, slow) in June. Back on turf last time, showed he could cope with this mark finishing second to one in equally good form, sound claims.

14/1
Course winner over 1m, finds herself on a long losing run with her last three starts looking well below her best. Beaten when meeting trouble at Musselburgh last time over 7.2f she would need to show some enthusiasm before supporting.

22/1
Quirky sort who often looks irresolute in a finish (overall not one to trust). Slipped back down to his last winning mark gained over 7.2f at Musselburgh early last year, returned to his usual wayward conduct since then, well beaten last time.

9/2
Showed a tough attitude to beat next-time-out winner Moretti at Thirsk (6f, good/soft) last time confirming previous promise and helped by a headgear swap. Up 4lb this will be tougher for this C&D winner who disappointed on his last C&D try.

Ayr regular (2-26), both her wins coming over 6f (0-26 over further than 6f). Delivered a couple of creditable performances since returning to action over 6f here but done nothing to suggest she will be winning over this trip for the first time.

We've Got The Loveb19
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-12| J: Phil Dennis| T: M Mullineaux| OR:  45
50/1
Lightly-raced sort (had just run for Clive Cox), shown very little for this yard (tried in blinkers for handicap debut last time). 1lb out of the weights, hard to fashion an argument on the evidence so far although the yard are in decent form.

Forecasts

Great Colaci (9/4), Lagenda (9/2), Carlovian (9/2), Swinging Eddie (13/2), Jessie Allan (10/1), Chaplin Bay (11/1), Lucky Violet (14/1), Roaring Forties (18/1), Colour Contrast (22/1), We've Got The Love (50/1)

Verdict

With plenty that like to come from off the pace in this there could be another chance for Carlovian to make all again although he encounters a better surface and a furlong longer trip this time up to his highest winning mark. Given those circumstances GREAT COLACI shades the decision despite coming second to Moretti who was narrowly beaten by Carlovian on her previous start. Trained by Gillian Boanas the 7yo looks in decent form currently and this isn’t a strong heat. Lagenda would need to return to his best form to win this but he has a shot at the places along with Chaplin Bay who may need a stronger pace than he’s likely to get here to show his true worth.
  1. Great Colaci
  2. Carlovian
  3. Lagenda
