Top class chaser, often mixes it with the best and as such, wins are fewer these days but he's still capable, as he showed when winning a Grade 3 handicap at Newbury last year. Has had a recent outing on the Flat, but faces a tough task.

Very useful novice chaser, winning small-field Grade 2 chases at Wincanton and Kempton but has form in bigger fields over hurdles. Not seen for well over a year but handicapper has given him a chance if fit after absence. Conditions fine.

Hard to catch right but was still in the firing line in the Grade 3 Brown Advisory at Cheltenham when falling two out. Trip and likely ground fine but little room for manoeuvre off this mark, and may find others stronger at the finish.

Nothing wrong with his strike rate over fences, winning six of 13, but all those wins are in single figure fields, and dominating from the front is very much his game. Faces competition for the lead and probably wouldn't want a lot of rain either.

Best form comes on ground no worse than good to soft, but loves it here, winning two of his four starts and was second in this race from a 4lb lower mark last year. Sure to be wound up for this and the faster they go early, better his chance late.

Back on the same mark as when winning Uttoxeter's valuable Grade 2 Clarke Chase back in 2018 but since then has only raced four times, looking a shadow of himself. Has had a wind operation since last running and likely conditions should suit.

Age: 10|  Weight: 11-1| J: Aidan Coleman| T: O Murphy| OR:  139| DWS

Has won three of his 14 chase starts, last of those coming at the turn of the year when successful at Musselburgh. Not the most consistent around but likely conditions fine and yard going well, so reasons to think he could get involved.

Tries hard and has won three of his six chase starts to date, not seen out since finishing fifth in Ascot's valuable Sodexho Chase last November. Seems happy on most ground, and may well have improvement to come, so has to be taken seriously.

Won two of his four chase starts to date, useful hurdler has made the transition to fences well and found soft ground against him a couple of times last year. Had a recent pipe-opener on the Flat and as long as the rain stays away, has chances here.

Useful handicap chaser at her level, excuses for last couple of runs before break but was a ready winner at Hereford last October. Looks plenty high enough in the handicap now though, and at the age of 10, others more progressive.

Won two of his five chase starts, but they were both in small fields and he's not been seen for over a year now. Probably capable of better, and has changed yards in meantime. Has had a win operation and now wears tongue-tie. Interesting.

Came back off a short break to win the Prelude Chase over C&D last September, battling gamely; form after that mixed, but solid effort at Ludlow on final start in February. Likely conditions fine and still looks fairly weighted, so one to consider.

Have to go back to 2017 to find last time he won one but capable of good handicap form when on song, although those days few and far between. On a very good mark if he can be coaxed back to former glories and could be a lively outsider.

Two wins in small fields (one a match) over fences so far, highly tried a few times last year but in truth, a bit disappointing overall. Probably capable of better than that and yard have plenty of winners this time of the year, so can't rule out.

Had a good time of it last summer, winning a couple and holding his form well in the main, but can look hard work at times. This will be the toughest company he has faced and handicapper might have him about right now.

Winner of one of her four chase starts, that coming in a good race at Kempton last November and there are excuses for her subsequent defeat. Conditions look fine for her and mark still workable, but she will face competition on the front end.

Winner of this back in 2018 from a 3lb higher mark, so chance is there to see from a handicapping point of view, but looked a bit on the downgrade last year and needs to recapture his old form now. Foolish to discount his chance off such a low mark.

Forecasts

Lough Derg Spirit (9/2), Bags Groove (11/2), Solomon Grey (7/1), Potterman (7/1), San Benedeto (17/2), Royal Village (12/1), Fidux (14/1), Drumcliff (14/1), Imperial Presence (16/1), Adrrastos (16/1), Copper West (20/1), Really Super (25/1), Art Of Payroll (25/1), More Buck's (28/1), Knockgraffon (28/1), Pink Eyed Pedro (66/1), Field Exhibition (150/1)

Verdict

A wide open race for the money, as expected. Alan King might hold the key, as both of his runners, Potterman and FIDUX should have improvement to come over fences this season and in the hope the ground isn't too bad, Fidux gets the vote. He ran very well in the face of one or two stiff tasks last year and his recent run on the Flat was very solid, with the 1-2 there going on to finish in the same positions in the Northumberland Plate. Bags Groove has been off some time but will be a big danger if fit, and at bigger prices, the Fry yard also have the risky-but-capable Art Of Payroll with a chance.
  1. Fidux
  2. Bags Groove
  3. Potterman
