6/1
Carries a 7lb penalty for his maiden win at Huntingdon (2m, good to soft), but does boast a consistent and solid level of hurdles form (0231); a recent spin on the AW at Chelmsford will undoubtedly have blown a few cobwebs away; key player.

Horse silk
80/1
Getaway gelding (£2,500 yearling); always towards the fore until giving way at the business end of the race (seventh of 12) at Ayr (2m NHF, good) 421-days ago; swiftly overlooked on introduction to hurdling.
75-rated on the Flat (career record of 4-32); competed on the AW towards the back-end of 2019, springing a 16-1 surprise at Chelmsford (1m6f); left the care of Simon Dow (at the Newmarket autumn sale) for 20,000gns; hurdles debut.
4
Horse silk
5/6
Firmly in control when making a winning start at Stratford (bumper), before a solid second to Mahler's Promise on hurdles debut at Newbury (2m+ maiden, soft); retains plenty of potential on debut for Olly Murphy (previously with Tom George).
French import (ex-Artus Adeline De Broisbrunet); half-brother to three winners, including Etoile Moriviere (2m2f, hurdle); thought unlikely to figure prominently in this contest.
6
Horse silk
200/1
Failed to beat a single rival in two attempts in bumpers (spread over a ten month period); simply can't be entertained on that basis as he switches to hurdling for the first time.
7
Horse silk
11/2
Former Flat racer (75-rated; 4-26); raced keenly when making a winning hurdles debut at Fakenham (2m, good) in March; this is a slightly sterner test of his attributes; promises to be fully race-fit following a recent Flat spin (Newmarket).
Picked up cheaply in October 2018 (for £2,000); well beaten, but took minor honours in a bumper here in May 2019; bitterly disappointing next time; switches to hurdling off a 376-day absence; safe to look elsewhere.

Red Caravel1096
Age: 6|  Weight: 11-0| J: Ross Chapman| T: Stef Keniry
150/1
Flat maiden (0-7); left the care of Richard Hughes for 5,000gns in July 2017; finally reappears from a monster absence of 1096 days; is wholly unappealing.
10
Horse silk
Thrave24
Age: 5|  Weight: 11-0| J: H Cobden| T: P F Nicholls
10/3
Newmarket maiden winner (7f) for Henry Candy; demonstrated useful Flat form, earning a rating of 90+, during the spring and summer of 2019; heads over hurdles on his third start for Paul Nicholls; track the market for clues.
11
Horse silk
Piano Stairst1137
Age: 4|  Weight: 10-12| J: R Johnson| T: T Lacey
16/1
Fell on sole point-to-point start (Brocklesby Park); sports a tongue-tie for rules debut, having been transferred from Sophie to Tom Lacey; Richard Johnson is clearly a positive jockey booking.
12
Horse silk
40/1
Shantou mare; offered glimpses of promise in bumpers, but was weak in the market (25-1) when pulled up on hurdles debut at Doncaster (2m+ soft) in February; others make more appeal.

Forecasts

Enemy Coast Ahead (5/6), Thrave (10/3), Medalla De Oro (11/2), Rhosneigr (6/1), Piano Stairs (16/1), Ever So Cool (40/1), El Borracho (50/1), Easy Bucks (80/1), Flash Moriviere (125/1), Red Caravel (150/1), Overtougeorge (150/1), Lemonade Drinker (200/1)

Verdict

Both Thrave (Paul Nicholls) and Piano Stairs (Tom Lacey) should be monitored in the market exchanges, but this novices' hurdle will potentially go the way of one of the more experienced runners. Previous hurdle winners Rhosneigr (Huntingdon) and Medalla De Oro (Fakenham) have the benefit of a recent Flat pipe-opener under their respective belts, but a slight chance is taken on the race-fitness of ENEMY COAST AHEAD. His bumper and hurdles form is arguably the strongest on offer, and he can make a winning start for Olly Murphy (previously with Tom George).
  1. Enemy Coast Ahead
  2. Rhosneigr
  3. Medalla De Oro
