Lightly-raced 5yo, twice a winner 2018, without a win since (given some stiff tasks), best effort last year 2L second to Fox Tal, Doncaster (10.2f) minor event. Ran poorly when last seen in a handicap (2lb higher), has run well fresh, bit to prove.
Completed a hat-trick on handicap debut at Haydock (10.5f, good/firm), suited by the increased trip. Acquitted himself well in a Goodwood Group 3 (1m4f) but well below-par at the same level back there over 2f further when last seen, 1m2f looks sharp.
Useful handicapper, twice a winner last year on AW (has a pedigree for synthetics) over 1m holding his form reasonably well, effective also at this trip. Reappearance run over 1m here can be ignored (raced wrong side), still faces a stiff task.
Multiple winner in Italy including at Listed/Group 3 level over 1m-1m1f, respectable efforts (without a win) over the winter on AW/turf, latterly at Meydan. Fair effort when third in 1m course handicap recently, vulnerable to less-exposed sorts.
Steadily progressive in 2019, winning twice over 1m2f/1m4f, proved consistent overall. Gelded for return over C&D, shaped well in a race that didn't pan out for him (not unduly punished), cheekpieces now on first-time, an improving sort.
Forecasts
Desert Icon (11/8), Elwazir (11/4), Wait Forever (9/2), Dal Horrisgle (9/2), Kuwait Currency (20/1)
Question marks remain over one or two of these and it’s the solid effort of DESERT ICON last time that looks to be the performance to concentrate on here. Left poorly-placed in that similar contest 21 days ago he should strip fitter now and looks the type to improve as a 4yo. His trainer, William Haggas also runs Dal Horrisgle who drops in grade for his seasonal reappearance having won the last time he was seen in a handicap. This trip may be a little sharp for him these days though but it should provide a good pipe opener. Elwazir has a bit to prove but has run well when fresh in the past, while Kuwait Currency looks exposed off this mark and Wait Forever has his stamina to prove.
- Desert Icon
- Elwazir
- Dal Horrisgle
