Pacy 6f juvenile winner (Pontefract); finished fourth of 20 in a competitive York nursery (6f, good) last August, but most underwhelming in two more recent starts (Newcastle & Sandown); helpfully drops back in trip to 6f.

Consistent gelding; finished sixth of 20 (Monoski fourth) in a competitive York nursery (6f, good) last August; kicked off his three-year-old campaign with a bold front-running shift (worn down late by Brad The Brief) at Haydock (6f, good to soft).

Off the mark at the fourth time of asking when a comfortable 3¼L winner of a C&D novice (good) last week - wind surgery seemingly beneficial; must enter the reckoning now switched to the handicapping ranks; 5lb claimer a clear aid.

Twice successful as a juvenile (Salisbury and Newcastle); ran a solid race on seasonal reappearance at Sandown (7f, good), only giving way from the furlong pole in finishing third to the Meydan Listed winner Well Of Wisdom; most appealing.

Forecasts

Buhturi (7/4), Ascension (7/4), Lexington Dash (11/4), Monoski (11/1)

Verdict

Race-riding tactics will play an important part in the outcome of this 6f three-year-old handicap, but both Franny Norton (Monoski) and Dane O'Neill (Buhturi) have their hands tied with their respective mounts strongly favouring a front-running approach. Therefore, the focus switches to the recent C&D novice winner Lexington Dash, and the Roger Varian-trained ASCENSION. David Egan's mount didn't quite see out the 7f trip on his seasonal reappearance at Sandown (ran well nevertheless), but is strongly fancied to pounce late on this occasion and deliver the goods with a potent finishing kick.
  1. Ascension
  2. Lexington Dash
  3. Buhturi
