C&D winner on his only previous visit to the track (5lb lower mark) prior to resuming this year with another Newcastle AW win (5-10 there). Has a fair strike-rate overall (8-30), back on turf, mark still fair, gone well of breaks before, 6f suits.
Eight-time 6f winner (never won at another trip), 2019 campaign proved a damp squib (showed very little in four starts). Shaped as if better for the run ay Haydock recently (6f, good), tumbling in the weights, dangerous if he does find some spark.
Enjoyed return to the scene of only previous win when returned to Brighton (6f, good/firm) to spring a surprise last August. Cheekpieces worn appeared to have an intermittent effect afterwards. Good C&D second last time (beneficial track position).
Dual Windsor scorer over 6.1f in quick conditions (first two career starts) before finding life tougher for the most part in handicaps. Looked to need the run over C&D on return (Tin Hat, second), needs to find his earlier form again, visor now on.
Ended last season with a win at Nottingham (5f, heavy), already won over 6f on the July Course. Started this season well progressing from his debut to run a good second over C&D, unsuited by 5f in quick conditions here on Friday, this more suitable.
Below-par efforts in 2019 for Jamie Osborne (one standout run), performances often lacked an end product. Encouraging start for this yard in new headgear combination at Chelmsford (6f, slow), mark interesting if he can progress again with visor on.
Forecasts
Colonel Frank (85/40), Equiano Springs (4/1), Vegas Boy (9/2), Tin Hat (11/2), Drummond Warrior (13/2), Mythmaker (8/1)
Small field for this 6f handicap but nonetheless all of the sextet having some sort of chance. Both Mythmaker and Vegas Boy had disappointing 2019 campaigns but the product of that is that they both now have reduced marks to work with and either could cause a surprise returning to form. Tin Hat has already shown his form over C&D although he was gifted an advantageous track position that day so may find life tougher here. Equiano Springs arrives having won two of his last three including a C&D victory, despite that he might just be better on the AW and COLONEL FRANK back over 6f (also a C&D winner) is taken to enjoy this experience better than when running over 5f here on Friday.
- Colonel Frank
- Equiano Springs
- Vegas Boy
