Looks an improved performer since coming to this yard on the back of wind surgery winning four of his six starts on AW/turf. Proved himself to be fully effective on turf when winning at Ayr (5f, good/firm, made all); carries a 5lb penalty, claims.
Failed to sparkle in two efforts for this yard after joining from Clive Cox, unable to take advantage of a falling mark. Well below his best throughout 2019 (not won since previous year), has to show more zest before he's of interest.
Ran in some useful races in Ireland (originally with Aidan O'Brien); only has a 6f Naas maiden to show for his efforts. 33-1, on second run for this yard at Haydock (5f, good) last time, creditable fifth (raced close to strong pace), could improve.
In good form in the first half of 2019 over 5f, last win coming off a 3lb higher mark than today at Windsor. Appeared to fail to fire after that in the second half of the year ending with a below-par run on the AW, has won fresh, stiff enough task.
6lb below his last winning mark (Musselburgh, 5f, good) early last year, threatening to come good soon having shown promise in his last two starts for this new yard. Only beaten by a well-treated course specialist at Ripon last time, sound claims.
Profile from last year looks very hit or bust, did record three wins all over 5f on quick ground though as the high points. Not disgraced when reappearing (wasted good draw) at Kempton, kept on to finish fourth, yet to win off a mark this high.
Last win was two years ago (won first two career starts); produced some reasonable placed efforts since then whilst not totally convincing. Left Michael Bell after some below-par late 2019 starts, run needed on stable debut, this should reveal more.
Won three handicaps at 5f/6f start of 2019 (all on quick ground and for the most part held his form throughout the year. Promise shown on return to action (had wind op) on AW (6.1f), suffered interference, well backed, looks on a good mark.
Back to form from out of the blue for this yard, dropped in grade/returned to AW off a break over 5.1f (helped by strongly-run race). Not in the same form when next seen over 6f (ran too free), back up in grade, well beaten; little appeal on return.

An opening event which pits some well handicapped individuals against a couple that have run well already this week. National Anthem looks on the up having now proven himself on turf at Ayr on Monday making all to beat a solid field of handicappers. He’ll need to step up again with a 5lb penalty and may face pace pressure from Merry Banter who also ran well in Scotland on Monday taking third in a 5f Listed event. ABEL HANDY is too well handicapped to ignore though having twice shaped well for the O’Meara yard which continues in excellent form the drop to 5f shouldn’t be a worry. Mark’s Choice is another looking to exploit a good mark he’s respected along with North Wind and Restless Rose.
- Abel Handy
- National Anthem
- Merry Banter
