Winner three starts ago in Newcastle novice but not up to the same level since. Returned from lengthy absence with 9L eighth at Newcastle (7f) this month. Dropped 3lb in handicap and now on a workable mark.
Consistent in 2018 but struggled to hold form together last year. Not seen since poor effort at Beverley last July and due to run at Redcar last Thursday. Others make more appeal.
Useful in the past at a higher level and bounced back after losing streak with nice victory at Lingfield (6f, standard) in March. Up 6lb so handicapper is taking no chances but is considered.
On a significant losing streak now and form markedly dipped at the end of 2019. Last seen finishing last of 14 at Newcastle in November (6f). Had wind surgery since but best watched.
Racked up a string of placed efforts on the all-weather this winter and returned with modest enough performance with 5L ninth at Wolverhampton (6f, standard) 10 days ago. Entitled to improve so each-way claims once again.
Winner at Redcar last August but poor profile since then. Out of the frame in two starts this year, including 13L 11th at Beverley (5f, good) three days ago. Limited appeal.
Admirable veteran now but showing no signs of easing off, including 6L fourth at Wolverhampton (7f) in March. Comes into this off an absence but this trip should suit better. Mild place claims.
Very lightly-raced for a four-year-old but offered nothing in three starts. Beaten 27L in 6f Southwell novice on stable debut. Tough enough opening handicap mark so best watched.
C&D winner in maiden handicap last July but has been a mixed bag since. Put in one of better performances when beaten 6L at Beverley (5f) three days ago. Could go close if bettering that form.
Landed Carlisle handicap (6f) off 2lb higher last Summer but form toiled at the back end, including 13L defeat at Catterick (6f) in October. Not seen since and needs to find a bounce back.
Nearly a year-and-a-half since last victory and had looked out of sorts before solid 3L defeat at Chepstow (6f, good to soft) five days ago. Not penalised for that and has bold claims.
14-race maiden who had seemingly found her level here but struggled towards the end of last season, including 6L sixth at Newcastle (6f) in October. Will need a career-best to win.
Best piece of form came when third in C&D handicap in May 2019 but poor in two efforts since, including 10L eighth at Thirsk (6f, soft) last August. Dropped 2lb to likeable mark for season return.
Forecasts
The Golden Cue (18/5), Montalvan (9/2), Alameery (5/1), Lucky Lodge (10/1), Devil's Angel (11/1), Jem Scuttle (11/1), Highland Acclaim (12/1), Josiebond (16/1), Bibbidibobbidiboo (18/1), Highjacked (22/1), Naples Bay (22/1), Dahik (33/1), Star Citizen (40/1)
A handicap where winning form is hard to come by, it looks a good opportunity for THE GOLDEN CUE to notch a victory. The track at Chepstow seemingly didn't play to his strengths last time out but still ran with great credit and escapes punishment from the handicapper. Highland Acclaim has the most recent winning form in the book but the handicapper is taking no chances with him, while the likes of previous C&D winner Montalvan and Jem Scuttle should be thereabouts in a weak-looking race, but need to improve on their most recent seasonal debuts.
- The Golden Cue
- Montalvan
- Highland Acclaim
