Smooth progress last year, winning minor contests at Redcar and Kempton before shaping well in Doncaster Group 3 at the Leger Festival. Soft ground at Newmarket on final start a negative. Should be more to come this season and respected here.

Ultimately out of the money in all starts last year but five creditable efforts in pattern races and reappeared with 2L fourth behind Nazeef in Kempton Listed contest (1m, AW; 40-1) this month. Fitness advantage on most of these and should go well.

Decent handicapper last summer and placed in Listed Swedish event over 1m in September. Two thankless tasks in Dubai early in the year but bounced back with fine fourth in Class 3 at Newmarket (7f, good to firm; 18-1) this month. More needed.

Won a Bath sprint off 89 last July and very consistent in Listed company afterwards. Fine effort when close fourth at Haydock (6f, good to soft; 7-1) last weekend giving weight to smart younger horse and key player with fitness in the bank now.

Looked to be going places after hat-trick of wins last season over 7f/1m including h'cap bow at Newmarket off 91; progress stalled after that but remains with potential for better and return to 7f should be a plus for first attempt in this grade.

Both career wins at Newmarket including a 6f handicap on quick ground on the July Course last summer off 95; oft-tried in this company last season however and yet to strongly suggest she's capable of winning.

Twice runner-up twice in German listed company last year before joining this yard; she finished on the heels of Foxtrot Lady in the Snowdrop Fillies' Stakes at Kempton 10 days ago and is entitled to come forward now back on turf with run behind her.

Footstepsinthesand filly made it two-from-two since joining Archie Watson when winning a 7f Kempton novice with something to spare in March. Trip fine and trainer/jockey flying but much more on her plate back on turf.

Ripon winner on debut and showed up well in Group 3s at Salisbury and Ayr (both 6f, good) back in September; didn't appear to relish soft going on final start at Newmarket when well held in Listed event. Improvement this season is probable.

Forecasts

Mubtasimah (11/4), Miss Celestial (7/2), Preening (4/1), Foxtrot Lady (5/1), Farzeen (6/1), Dancing Feet (8/1), Lyzbeth (12/1), Viva Gloria (14/1), Canton Queen (14/1), Hateya (16/1), Final Option (16/1), Sunday Star (18/1)

Verdict

Preening ended last season with a French success in this grade and tends to go well fresh, she's respected for James Fanshawe but must concede a penalty to some potential improvers now. MISS CELESTIAL was a model of consistency last season and deserves to bag a prize of this nature. A close-up fifth behind smart three-year-old Liberty Beach at Haydock last week on her comeback, she's going to be cherry-ripe now and may score for Sir Mark Prescott. Foxtrot Lady and German import Viva Gloria are also race-fit and the latter joins Farzeen, Mubtasimah and Final Option as potential improvers.
