All a little bit all or nothing last year putting in some good performances on occasions and dire ones on others. Ended his season on a downbeat rather than upbeat note; has run well off breaks before so that angle give some hope for his chance.
Only one of the field to have had a recent run just failing to end his lengthening losing sequence at Newmarket last week (did best of those held-up) off a wind op. C&D winner in the past, well handicapped, big player, has won off short breaks before.
Reeled off a quick-fire hat-trick last July when in the form of his life; ran well enough off higher marks subsequently without looking like a winner waiting to happen. All his wins have come off 21-day or less breaks so may need this run.
Joined a yard well known for their sprinters especially those they pick up from other yards (was with Richard Fahey). Lightly-raced for his age (not won since landing first three starts of career); useful at best, off a career-low mark, interesting.
Took advantage of a reduced mark to land a Chester handicap (6f, heavy) from a plum draw appreciating the cut in the ground. Only seen once after that (needed run), chances are that will be the story here having been absent a further seven months.
Posted several good efforts last year but only managed one win although to put that in context he did run in several tough handicaps. Back on his last winning mark and in a slightly easier grade, can make the running, has won when fresh.
Failed to win last year but ran one eye-catching race at Thirsk over 5f where he shaped as if 6f would suit (both wins at that trip). Sold from Ed Walker 70,000gns in October/gelded, best form on decent ground so wouldn't want any further rain.
Useful type who won at Leicester in July (7f, good) but is effective at this trip; ran better than his finishing position suggests on a few occasions after his last win. 2lb above his last winning mark; champion jockey booked, certainly worth a second look.
Family well known to this yard and he could still have some progression in him having won off a long break at Redcar in September (beat three rivals). Yet to totally put it all together in handicaps but the potential is there off a mark like this.
Form tailed off badly in last three starts of the year after it looked as though he was back to his best with a Redcar win over 7f in August off this mark. A previous C&D winner he's performed well off a break before so he can't be written off after a break.
Scored three times over C&D but the last of those victories was nearly two years ago (well handicapped on his old form in this sphere). Failed to fire throughout last season and never been one to offer much off a long break, best watched for now.
Landed just a solitary win last year after rattling off four wins the previous year including a hat-trick over 5f/6f. Produced some good efforts in defeat last year but did end with a below-par performance, yard not quite firing since the resumption.
Forecasts
Aljady (7/2), Intisaab (7/2), Blackheath (11/2), Call Me Ginger (13/2), Muscika (9/1), Wahoo (9/1), Royal Prospect (11/1), Triggered (25/1), Mythmaker (28/1), Only Spoofing (40/1), Princess Power (40/1), Quick Look (80/1)
Like the previous race on the card this is competitive with several interesting types. One of the more obvious contenders is Intisaab who ran a cracker against a pace bias at Newmarket on Friday having tumbled down the handicap (also had wind op) but he does need luck in-running with his style of racing. Stablemate Muscika is a straightforward sort who could make the running and resides on a good mark. The likes of Triggered (awkward draw) and Aljady both with new yards and off good marks have potential while Call Me Ginger isn’t one to pass over lightly. BLACKHEATH is a sporting suggestion given he’s close to his last winning mark and Oisin Murphy is an eye-catching booking.
- Blackheath
- Muscika
- Intisaab
