Rated 10lb higher than when last in action on turf (August 2019) owing to a productive spell on the AW over the winter months (won twice over 1m at Kempton); disappointed on his most recent start; stablemate of Ouzo.
Without a win since his juvenile days (won the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes) and yet to score beyond 7½f; stamina stretched when finishing an eased last of five to Furzig on the Chelmsford Polytrack (1m2f) in February.
Sprung a 33-1 surprise when making a winning course debut (7f) in late 2018, but made minimal impact as a highly tried 3yo (three runs in Listed and Group races); makes his handicap debut for a trainer in red-hot current form.
Twice placed in 1m Dubai handicaps since the turn of the year, before an unsettling experience (clipped heels and unseated rider) in the Group 1 Jebel Hatta; returns to these shores in calmer waters, so merits each-way consideration.
Still seeking his first win for David O'Meara (also saddles Shelir) with just a sole success in a Chantilly maiden (1m, good) on his 18-race CV; produced a mid-division finish in the Cambridgeshire (1m1f) last September.
Appealed as an exciting prospect when maintaining his unbeaten record in the Listed Tetrarch Stakes (Curragh, 7f good/yld) early last year; didn't kick on thereafter, leaving Dermot Weld for €70,000; still low mileage on handicap/stable debut.
Back to form late last season on return from a five-month absence when winning a 1m classified stakes race at Ascot (good to firm); set plenty to do here on his next start when unable to reel in the comfortable winner; now gelded, a likely player.
Off the track for almost 1000 days since winning a Class 2 Doncaster handicap (1m, good to soft) by just under 2L; hopefully can shape with a degree of promise for the future for the likeable local handler John Berry.
Rock-solid handicapper earlier in his career - won the Royal Hunt Cup at odds of 33-1 in 2017; in reasonable shape last August as demonstrated when runner-up in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Mile; the handicapper is slowly cutting him some slack.
Won three on the spin last June, culminating with an authoritative display on the July Course (1m, good); the handicapper has made life slightly tougher since, but he is reasonably closely matched with Ebury; stablemate of Kuwait Currency.
Forecasts
Bell Rock (4/1), Ouzo (4/1), Ebury (4/1), Wait Forever (15/2), Arctic Sound (15/2), Zhui Feng (8/1), Baltic Baron (12/1), Shelir (22/1), Kuwait Currency (33/1), Kryptos (40/1)
Ebury was most unfortunate not to score (Ouzo fourth) when finishing with a rare old rattle over C&D in November, and the handicapper has taken evasive action with a 3lb weights rise. Martyn Meade's charge sports a reliable profile (12012) so ought to be firmly in the mix. However, at slightly more rewarding odds there are possible each-way options, namely Bell Rock (for the red-hot Andrew Balding) and SHELIR. The selection is one of two runners for the shrewd David O'Meara (also saddles Baltic Baron) and the Helmsley-based trainer so often excels with others cast-offs.
- Shelir
- Ebury
- Bell Rock
