Has risen in the weights since scoring by a neck over 6f here in November (also a Southwell winner since); thought likely to be finishing off strongly from off the pace over this shorter trip; place claims.
Versatile in terms of trip and ground; won from a similar mark to today's at Haydock (5f, heavy) in August 2019, yet rounded off the previous campaign on a downbeat note.
Has run some solid races at this track in the past, and was justifying favouritism when short-heading The Grey Zebedee over C&D in October; poor since, but isn't necessarily completely out of the equation from just a 2lb higher mark.
Doesn't win very often (1-22) and somewhat lacklustre since finishing third of 20 at Cork (5f, yld/soft) in October 2019; mildly interesting to see how he has acclimatised this side of the Irish Sea.
Went second close home when beaten ¾L by Longroom over C&D in early March; renews rivalry on 3lb better terms; has a shout.
Broke his AW duck (at the sixth attempt) when making a successful debut for Paul Midgley over C&D in early March - beat today's rival Marietta Robusti by ¾L; has a 4lb rise (3lb worse off) to overcome.
With Mick Appleby when scoring with plenty in hand at Kempton (7f, Class 6) last December; ran his best race to date for Ben Haslam when a close third at Wolverhampton (6f) 96 days ago; holds every chance.
Although the winning run came to an end here on a testing surface on Monday, this 4yo gelding turned in another excellent effort in finishing a close third to Queen Of Kalahari (in a Cl 5 handicap); figures high on the shortlist.
Five of his six AW wins have come on the Fibresand at Southwell (won back-to-back races during February, 5f-6f), so it was slightly surprising that he ran so poorly here on Monday on a testing Tapeta surface.
Competes from an ever easing handicap mark, and we know from past experience that he's well suited to racing on artificial surfaces (C&D winner); certainly isn't without a squeak if freshened up by a six-month absence.
Lacks much in the way of experience of racing on the AW, but is a four-time winner on turf; sits just 1lb higher than when beating Kaafy by a neck at Musselburgh (5f, good) last August.

Forecasts
Quanah (2/1), Longroom (11/4), Compton's Finale (11/2), Boudica Bay (14/1), Calin's Lad (14/1), Landing Night (16/1), Lydiate Lady (16/1), Gorgeous General (18/1), Somewhere Secret (25/1), Marietta Robusti (25/1), Global Humor (25/1), Swiss Connection (28/1)
Quanah ran a blinder in defeat (in a stronger Class 5 contest) here on Monday, so must figure high on any shortlist despite the forecast less testing racing surface, while the old foes Longroom (second start for Paul Midgely) and Marietta Robusti must also be considered along with the attractively weighted and returning C&D scorer Landing Night. However, any Ben Haslam-trained runner at Gosforth Park nowadays merits close inspection and the solution to this low-grade affair could feasibly come in the shape of the former Mick Appleby inmate CALIN'S LAD.
- Calin's Lad
- Quanah
- Landing Night
