Showed some promise as a juvenile but always looked more likely to need another winter under his belt and a longer trip. He has that now, and it would be no surprise if he improves to take a hand if acting on this surface on his AW debut.
Made a promising debut at Epsom (7f) last July, but failed to go on from there. Since gelded and goes up in trip on this reappearance, while also dropping 4lb. Can't write him off, but would like to see some market confidence.
Was a good third on this surface at Wolverhampton (1m1½f) in January, when 2lb lower. Improved on that when fourth in a blanket finish at Kempton (1m, Polytrack) when last seen in March. Still going the right way and looks a contender.
Took some sort of step forward with each of three runs in the autumn, his most recent when third at Southwell (7f, Fibresand) in November. Since had wind surgery and will need improvement to win from this initial handicap mark.
Didn't show much for Richard Hannon laat year. Gelded since last seen in August, and changed hands for 14,000gns in October. Has a tough task from this mark based on any public form.
Showed improved form on the last of her four starts for Hughie Morrison, when 1½L third on her handicap debut at Wolverhampton (1m1½f, Tapeta) in January. Changed hands for 11,000gns since then, and is interesting from same mark on stable debut.
Well held in all three juvenile starts in maiden/novice contests last year. Since gelded and sufficient stamina in his pedigree to suggest that he may begin to improve this season, though he may have to wait for other days. Hood goes on.
Well held in all three soft/heavy ground starts towards the end of the last turf season. Dam won over this trip, so no surprise to see her start to show some improvement, though this initial mark looks stiff enough.
Big prices and held in all three starts last year, but not devoid of promise. Will probably have a minor handicap in her, but perhaps at a later stage.
The best of his four juvenile runs came on this surface at Wolverhampton (7f) in novices' company last October. Drops 4lb for this reappearance and goes up in trip, and would be interesting if supported.
Made an underwhelming debut at Newmarket (7f) last July, before showing more when 6½L sixth of 13 at Bath (1m) in September. Should be suited by this step up in trip and it will be a surprise if she can't have a say from this mark.
Showed a bit of promise in a Southwell maiden (1m) in February, and although not quite as good, she made the frame there on her handicap debut when last seen later that month. Step up in trip looks positive and she has an each-way chance.
Forecasts
Sea Of Marmoon (9/4), Mabre (7/2), Lawaa (9/1), Ampney Red (10/1), Cold War Steve (10/1), Brodick (12/1), Clifftop Heaven (16/1), Chiarodiluna (16/1), Black Star Dancing (16/1), Girl From Mars (20/1), Dorset Blue (28/1), Fansurper (50/1)
Money for Fansurper or Lawaa would be interesting, while Clifftop Heaven is respected. Brodick, Sea Of Marmoon and Ampney Red are others considered, but preference is for MABRE, who is improving and can do so again over this longer trip.
- Mabre
- Sea Of Marmoon
- Ampney Red
