Fakenham winner in October and ran respectably there last time; conditions fine again today but has nothing in hand of the handicapper and may find others hold better claims.

Won this from a 5lb lower mark last year, and has warmed up for a repeat with a couple of efforts over hurdles; likely to have been primed for today and the more the ground dries the better; solid chance of a repeat.

Mark falling quickly after some moderate efforts and you have to go back some 18 months to find his last win; better in cheekpieces in a jumpers bumper last time, and would have some hope here if he can build on that.

Go back far enough and you'll find him only being beaten 3l by Sam Spinner in a bumper, but has had his issues since then; second at Newcastle in January (hurdles) suggests he retains ability, but he does seem to find fences a struggle.

3lb lower than last win but that came back in 2018, and efforts this winter have left plenty to be desired; trainer brings him a long way to race here but that alone not reason enough to get with him.

Not totally disgraced in a couple of chase starts this winter, and is lightly enough raced for an 8yo to think there might even be a bit of improvement to come; place chances with a step forward.

Forecasts

Thomas Todd (7/4), Vocaliser (2/1), Compadre (11/4), Bestiarius (4/1), Oak Vintage (11/2), Cave Top (7/1), Cagliostro (10/1), Gustav (16/1), Carlitos Bay (16/1)

Verdict

COMPADRE likes it here, having won a couple of times, and won this race with a bit in hand last year. He's 5lb higher this time around but this isn't the strongest of contests and having had a wind operation since we last saw him, this looks a good chance for him. He can score at the expense of Vocaliser, who often travels well in his races but the yard could really do with a winner, having not had one since last June. Thomas Todd is consistent and that alone might entitle him to be among the places here.
  1. Compadre
  2. Vocaliser
