Multiple course winner, including four times over C&D. Remains 5lb higher than the most recent of those in January. Went very close again here from today's mark on his penultimate start, and entitled to plenty of respect.
Chelmsford specialist who also acts here, as evidenced with his career-best win last time over C&D. 6lb rise and step up in grade will ask more questions here, but if he produces the same effort, he will be tough to beat.
Debut Cork winner (7f, good to firm) last May, when with John Oxx. Gelded since his last run for that trainer, and now makes his debut for this one, having changed hands for €24,000 in October. Improvement needed on his handicap debut.
Has won three of his last five starts, all over 6f on Newcastle's Tapeta surface. Handicapper may now have caught up with him, after his 2½L second here from today's mark last time, but certainly not ruled out.
Scored at Chelmsford (5f, Polytrack) last July, when 9lb lower, which was his most recent AW run, and completed a four-timer after a hat-trick on turf. Not seen since September, and others press stronger claims in this line-up.
Forecasts
Highland Dress (6/4), Wasntexpectingthat (15/8), Zylan (5/1), Split Down South (6/1), Dapper Man (50/1)
Highland Dress needs improvement, but keep an eye on the market regarding his chance representing a good yard on his handicap debut. Zylan has to be feared here, while Wasntexpectingthat can't be ruled out again. However, SPLIT DOWN SOUTH produced a career-best win here last time and he is taken to maintain progress and back that up.
