Won GB debut at Wolverhampton (7f) but has been inconsistent since. Ran well in defeat at Chelmsford (1m2f) three runs back before not staying 1m4f here after being too free. Ran poorly again at Newcastle (1m) last time and needs to bounce back.

$995,000 who has been beaten favourite in all five starts but has ran well in defeat each time. Makes his handicap debut for a leading yard with a good strike rate (35%) here and should find this easier than some of his assignments so far.

Won over C&D off 6lb lower in October and has been holding his form well without winning since then. May need some further help from the handicapper in order to win but shouldn't be far away.

Twice second here from four starts, including when narrowly beaten over C&D three runs ago. Hasn't matched that form in two starts since at Newcastle (7f) and C&D and her losing run is now mounting up.

Four time course winner over the years but his last two wins have come in plating company. Is well into the veteran stage and may find some of the younger rivals too good in this grade.

Made a winning debut here (7f) last March but struggled in three further starts, including on handicap debut at Newbury (7f) when last seen in June. Has been gelded since but this a fair heat for the grade and will need a career best.

Fibresand debut; all three wins have been at Newcastle (Tapeta). Ran well there on his last two outings (7f), finishing 1½L second last time. Has struggled at Wolverhampton and Chelmsford so will be interesting on first encounter with this surface.

Forecasts

Sheriffmuir (15/8), Charlie Arthur (7/2), Mister Music (4/1), Makambe (11/2), Chosen World (11/2), Native Silver (7/1), Motawaafeq (10/1), Elixsoft (16/1)

Verdict

A decent heat for the grade but trainer John Gosden looks to have found SHERIFFMUIR a good opportunity for his handicap debut. He has ran well in all five starts to date and should appreciate this ease in class. Charlie Arthur presents a big danger, he has a tremendous winter so far and is unbeaten in two C&D starts and will be there pushing the selection all the way. Mokambe is very consistent and should make the frame but is paying for that consistency with his handicap mark.
  1. Sheriffmuir
  2. Charlie Arthur
  3. Makambe
