Will be suited by the predicted state of the ground and is better than he showed in a bumper on the AW at Newcastle last week. Has won over fences but not particularly well handicapped on the pick of his form.

First run over fences (at Kelso last September) is respectable in the context of this race and going the right way since joining his current yard. Debuts in a handicap chase but he's due a 2lb rise after a decent run over timber latest; a contender.

Yet to win a race over fences (or hurdles for that matter) and his jumping wasn't the most fluent in two outings last month. He's been operated on for a wind issue since then so might have more to offer now; the betting can guide.

Failed to complete either of his two previous starts over fences and needs to step up considerably on what he's shown so far under rules. Had a wind operation last month so might have had excuses. Risk attached.

Forecasts

Old Jewry (13/8), Brandy Pad (2/1), The Road Home (3/1), Eagle Ridge (4/1), Casimir Du Clos (5/1)

Verdict

A chance is taken that THE ROAD HOME can put his course experience to good use and finally get off the mark over fences at the eleventh time of asking. The gelding is very well handicapped in comparison to his hurdles form and, having gone close over C&D around this time last year, he has a lot going for him today. Old Jewry has scope for improvement over fences and will be a threat if he can better recent hurdles form, while Eagle Ridge needs to be sharper at his fences but doesn't have much to find to be involved in the shake-up. He, along with Brandy Pad has been under the knife for a wind operation since last seen, so support in the betting could be significant.
  1. The Road Home
  2. Old Jewry
  3. Eagle Ridge
