Sets the standard on two solid second placed efforts this term. Narrowly touched off at Taunton last time and has to concede weight all round but has solid claims for first hurdles victory at eighth time of asking.

Modest maiden 1m2f handicapper on Flat but showed promise on hurdles bow when 100/1 fourth of 13 at Huntingdon last month. Interesting to see if he can build on that effort for yard with 26% strike rate at this venue.

Horse silk
150/1
Third in a Market Rasen bumper late last summer but has shown very little so far over hurdles being well beaten on all three attempts since the turn of the year. Appears to face a very stiff task.

13/2
Five time Flat winner for Iain Jardine (including on heavy) at up to 1m6f in 2017, but not seen in action since October 2018. Makes jumps bow for new yard and hard to know how much ablity she retains. Market may prove an informative guide.

66/1
Failed to reach a place in eight starts on Flat at up to 1m4f for Karl Burke, but showed some ability when 200/1 third in Wetherby novice hurdle penultimate start. Soundly beaten on handicap bow there in December and has plenty to prove.
6
Horse silk
11/2
1m2f Nottingham handicap winner for James Given. Promise jumps bow on debut for current yard when second at Doncaster in December but flopped in Listed race there last time when reportedly lost a shoe. Chance if she handles much softer ground.

Forecasts

Ashutor (30/100), Cuban Sun (11/2), Sepal (13/2), Be Thankful (14/1), George Hastings (66/1), Kymata (150/1), Simul Amicis (150/1)

Verdict

CUBAN SUN is a tentative selection but has a proper chance if her latest effort can be overlooked. She reportedly lost a shoe last time when tackling Listed company and had previously run the eventual Listed winner to three lengths. Ashutor is the obvious danger. He went close again at Taunton last time and represents the champion trainer but has become expensive to follow. Sepal makes her belated hurdles bow following a long absence but was a fair sort on the Flat in her time so is worth considering if there is any support for her, and Be Thankful showed promise on her recent hurdles debut and could make her presence felt too.
  1. Cuban Sun
