Won the 2017 renewal of the Sussex National at this track. Not in the same form recently as was highlighted when he was pulled-up when struggling at Exeter (3m6f; soft) last month. Tough task giving weight away all round.

Dropped another 2lb in the weights for finishing fourth at Newbury (3m2f; soft) recently. Subsequently now 6lb below his last winning mark, but doesn't look ready to take advantage of that given the manner of his performances at present.

Not finished out of the front three in any of his last four starts, including when third at Newbury (2m; soft) when last seen. Just denied in second when pitched into a veterans contest on his penultimate start. Likely to be bang there.

Posted an underwhelming effort when well-fancied (sent off 7-2f) at Warwick (3m; soft). Failed to beat a single rival that day, and has work to do to reverse the form with Loose Chips. However, his last visit to this track did result in a win.

Admirable campaigner who is still showing plenty of enthusiasm for the game despite his advancing years. Respectable effort when third at Warwick (3m; soft) on New Year's Eve. Looks vulnerable for win purposes, but solid claims of making the frame.

Pretty inconsistent of late, and he trailed in last of five over C&D when last seen. Mark remains 4lb above his last winning one. No surprise if he was to bounce back, but others look more reliable.

Tzar De L'Elfe49

Finally broke his chasing duck over this C&D at the 22nd attempt last month when prevailing by a nose. 3lb rise for that win seems extremely fair given the front pair drew 13-length clear of the field. Solid claims given his consistent profile.

Forecasts

Antony (11/4), Tzar De L'Elfe (3/1), Shanahan's Turn (4/1), Loose Chips (7/1), Dylanseoghan (8/1), Uhlan Bute (17/2), Morney Wing (16/1)

Verdict

It may have taken him 21 attempts before TZAR DE L'ELFE finally opened his account over fences at this track last time out. He only by a nose and so the handicapper has only raised him 3lb for that maiden success, despite the fact there was a 13-length gap back to the third. In a race full of inconsistent/out of form rivals, Richard Rowe's charge can follow-up. Shanahan's Turn looks the most likely danger with the step up in trip in his favour, and the level of consistency he has been showing lately. Meanwhile, Loose Chips can back up his recent third in this grade and can confirm placings with Uhlan Bute who may have ran below-par when the pair met at Warwick last time out.
  1. Tzar De L'Elfe
  2. Shanahan's Turn
  3. Loose Chips
