9/4

Strong stayer, off the mark over fences when winning a match at Hexham (3m, heavy; 11-10) in November and then finished second in Kelso 4m marathon last month. Respected here despite conceding 6lb and trip being 'sharp'.

Form: 5F6F-12

Jammin Masters²⁹⁷

Age: 9| Weight: 11-0| J: G Sheehan| T: W Greatrex| OR: 135| D

7/2

Dual hurdles winner with undesirable record of finish second in all six completed starts over fences. Pulled up in the Midlands National at Uttoxeter in March when last spotted; capable fresh and should go well here.

Form: 0/2222P-

Sam Brown⁷⁵⁰

Age: 8| Weight: 11-0| J: Aidan Coleman| T: A J Honeyball| OR: 135

6/5

Winner of three of his four starts so far including a soft ground novice hurdle over an extended 2m4f at Plumpton in December 2017. Absent since and is one to note upped in trip on debut over fences with trainer in excellent form.

Form: 1141/

Sussex Ranger^b²⁰

Age: 6| Weight: 11-0| J: J E Moore| T: G & J Moore| OR: 126| C

7/1

Didn't appear to get home over C&D (heavy) in November on second start over fences, much more like it next time at Newbury on slightly better ground but still with improvement to find to best these three rivals.

Forecasts

Sam Brown (6/5), Just Your Type (9/4), Jammin Masters (7/2), Sussex Ranger (7/1)

Just the four runners but a wealth of possibilities. Just Your Type ran very well in the Scottish Borders National last month and is now back amongst novices'. Stamina is his forte however and this might not have enough emphasis on that trait. Jammin Masters is a useful sort but seems overly capable of finding a way to finish second over fences and so the vote goes to the long-absent SAM BROWN. He was promising when last spotted in late 2017 (won 3-4 starts) and should have a future over fences, while he returns at a time when trainer Anthony Honeyball has his team firing.
