Carries a penalty since he is the only winner in this field, when overturning a warm-favourite at Newton Abbot (2m1f; good) back in July. However, he was behind Arizona Glory (4th) when fifth at Sandown (2m1f; good) last time out. May strip fitter.

Ran better than his finishing position would suggest when fourth at Sandown (2m; soft) behind Goshen last time out. Was only midfield the time before that on hurdles debut. Must do considerably more to play a leading role in this competitive event.

Makes British debut for new yard after finishing runner-up in a conditions hurdle at Lyon Parilly (2m1f; good to soft) back in October. Stable are always respected with their juveniles and it would be no surprised if this one were to have a big say.

Looks to have it all to do on hurdles debut for stable that aren't readily associated with winning juveniles. 0-5 on the flat and possessed a very low rating (OR 45) under that code. Watching brief advised.

Chez Hanst143

9/2
French-recruit who was only fourth for connections on hurdles debut at Fontwell (2m1f; soft) in a race won by the exciting Goshen. The second has also won since, and so he looks to hold place claims at least.
6
Horse silk
200/1
Was beaten a long way again when seventh at Fontwell (2m1f; soft) earlier this month. Tailed off at Wincanton (2m; good) the time before that. Qualifies for a handicap mark after this, and that is likely to be where his future lies.
7
Horse silk
50/1
Behind Zoffee (2nd) on hurdles debut at Market Rasen (2m; soft), and then finished tailed off at Warwick (2m; soft). Stable are beginning to come back into form after a quiet spell, but he would have to show abnormal improvement to feature.

Well-beaten in a pair of maidens on the flat earlier this year for David Menuisier. Is now sent jumping for new yard who have recently turned a corner. Difficult to fancy on what he has shown so far but market check advised.

Very interesting recruit to the jumping scene for stable in top form. Won a maiden on the flat at Corlay (1m3f; heavy) on his most recent start. Dam is a half-sister to the high-class Melon. Enters calculations and betting may also be informative.

Has produced a pair of severely moderate efforts over hurdles to date, most recently when a distant ninth of 14 at Huntingdon (2m; good) in October. Others have far more pressing claims, and he can therefore be readily opposed.

Runner-up to Lord Lamington on hurdles debut at Market Rasen (2m; soft) who has since gone on to finish second in the Summit Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 2) at Doncaster recently. Major player on form.

Ideal Grace12

Never involved on hurdles debut at Newbury (2m; soft) when sent off at large odds (66-1). This race looks the same in terms of strength, and so she remains best watched as one of the big outsiders.

Forecasts

Zoffee (8/11), Blacko (4/1), Chez Hans (9/2), Night Edition (9/1), The Pink'n (10/1), Loch Laggan (25/1), Arizona Glory (40/1), Hurricane Hero (50/1), Broughtons Bear (66/1), Novus Aditus (125/1), Ideal Grace (150/1), Eighteenhundred (200/1)

Verdict

Plenty of these can be ruled out with confidence in this opener, but without doubt the one to beat is ZOFFEE. The selection finished runner-up to the potentially above-average Lord Lamington on his sole start over hurdles, and that horse has since gone onto frank the form when runner-up in a Grade 2 at Doncaster recently. There are a couple in here who are still of interest, namely Blacko who makes his debut on British soil for a yard who are well-known for their success with juveniles. Night Edition is also considered on stable debut given the form of the David Pipe team, and the fact he is related to the talented Melon. Chez Hans may also improve enough to feature.
  1. Zoffee
  2. Blacko
  3. Night Edition
