French recruit by the Sea The Stars. Won twice in a row at Clairefontaine (1m6f and 1m4f) during the summer before last seen finishing third in 1m7f Longchamp group 3. Market check on hurdles debut for powerful yard.

10/1
Failed to win in a handful of starts on the flat but shaped with promise on hurdles debut when 11L third at Market Rasen (2m) this month. Could be more to come in time.

Rowland Ward15
Age: 3|  Weight: 10-12| J: C Gethings| T: S Edmunds
9/1
Fair flat performer for Ralph Beckett, winning once over 1m4f, and was beginning to make an effort before crashing out at Warwick (2m) on hurdles debut. This is a deeper contest and the fall may have left a mark.

Thyme Whiteh121
Age: 3|  Weight: 10-12| J: H Cobden| T: P F Nicholls
10/3
One-time winner when trained in France. Nibbled at on debut but no match for impressive winner when 34L second at Sandown (2m) on British/yard debut. This looks easier so is respected.

13/2
Modest flat performer who was fourth of 12 on hurdles bow at Wincanton (2m) in October. Has since finished a good second on AW here (1m4f) but looks yard's second string on jockey bookings.

Verdict

A contest which has been won by some useful sorts in the past, it may be worth taking a chance on the unexposed HOMER, who raced at a useful level in France and comes from the same source line of many above-average performers for this yard and connections in the past. Thyme White was slammed by Britain's best juvenile - Goshen - on his first start but the yard's horses tend to improve significantly for their first outings, while Kings Royal Hussar and Goa Lil also suffered defeats on debut but shaped as if given time, they will develop into smart horses.
  1. Homer
  2. Thyme White
  3. Kings Royal Hussar
