Yard are 0-10 with bumper runners in the last five seasons but there were signs that this one could potentially improve that record. Belied big odds (66-1) when fourth here on debut on the outer course, winner of that race has since won again.

With Tom Cooper when well backed on his bumper debut at Newcastle earlier in the year; finished well beaten but showed some promise (may have needed run). Switched stables since along with having a wind op; interesting, watch for a market move again.

Yard going well (last five runners 21212) and this one strong in the market on his Ayr bumper debut at the top of the year. Looks the sort to be suited by a test so this sharp test may not be ideal although does promise to achieve more in the future.

Both Irish point-to-point starts ended in non-completions but he did have every chance at the last when falling last time. Not cheap despite those mishaps at £90,000, should play a part on debut for a yard with a 25% strike rate with newcomers here.
Newcomer from a yard that have a 4-7 record with their bumper newcomers here (won with their last two). A €22,000 purchase as a 3yo; fifth foal; dam unraced half-sister to very smart hurdler/top-class chaser Tidal Bay; should be involved.

Forecasts

Mackenberg (9/4), The Mayne Man (9/4), Bavington Bob (4/1), Brave Seasca (4/1), Offtheshoulder (9/2), Bushmill Boy (8/1), Empty Quarter (12/1), Pentelitubby (33/1)

Verdict

This looks a fairly deep bumper for the track with those having already run under Rules showing promise along with some interesting newcomers. The group with previous bumper form are less likely to win but strong market vibes for the likes of Brave Seasca would have to be noted. The duo with a point-to-point background take the eye as both were expensive purchases although both Mackenburg and Offtheshoulder will probably be suited by a stiffer test in future and the inside track here may be a little sharp. That could leave the way open for Stuart Crawford’s debutant THE MAYNE MAN, the yard do well in this sphere and have won with their last two newcomers at Carlisle in bumpers.
  1. The Mayne Man
  2. Offtheshoulder
  3. Mackenberg
